Personal History

From the moment she had taken her first breath of life Persephone had been different. She had not cried or whimpered, but instead listened. Perhaps somewhere in the back of her young child’s mind she knew it would be the last time she would hear the sound of her mothers voice. Or perhaps she had sensed that any cries out loud would only push her father further down his decent into madness. But what ever the cause, she had not made a sound. Even when she had been taken away by the doctors aboard the ship to be tested she did not make a noise. When the doctors had determined that Persephone did not carry the same potential threat as her mother she was then give to the care of an instructor on the ship.

Professor Lane did not have any children of his own and had known Jacob Nox for many years. Given Jacobs mental status Professor Lane took it upon himself to help raise the child. He even named her after his favorite character in literature, Persephone. Jacob had not always been insane. He had once been a prominent member of the colony in the Ficus sector. Jacob had worked in public relations for the colony when they received visitors from other places. When a space ship landed needing supply’s on their way to the delta quadrant it was Jacobs job to ensure that all crew member's needs were met. The moment she approached him, he wanted her. There was no doubt in his mind. As sure as the air he breathed he knew that he would have her. She was a star fleet officer, and also, a Deltan.

The story and reason is still unclear, but the outcome is plain. From the moment they mated, her telepathic connection with him drove him insane. He could not handle it.

She was aloud to remain in the Ficus sector Colony for the duration of her pregnancy. The moment the child was born the doctors began their tests to make sure the child’s mind was sound and to determine were she would be the safest. Persephone was born mostly Bringloidi and therefore was to stay in the custody of her father, and her mother was sent back to Delta IV for failure to comply with the rules and regulations of Star fleet.

So as the years past, Persephone was brought up by Professor Lane, and her father received every medical treatment possible to regain some semblance of sanity. Persephone grew up with a great aptitude for science. Lane could not have been more proud of what she was accomplishing. Sadly at Persephone's the tender age of ten, Professor Lane passed away. Persephone was sent to live with her father. Although the medical treatment he had been receiving had allowed him to rejoin society once again, the maddening affects of his relation ship with Persephone’s mother had left him paranoid and fanatical about anything that seemed “different”. Jacob rejected the ideas of educating his child in the ways of science and chose to confine her to learning the arts of his ancestors. She was forced to ware concealing clothing and only allowed out of the house when it was necessary. Jacob told Persephone that because she had Deltan in her blood, she was not safe and should be locked away from normal people. That she should be punished for the sins of her blood.

Persephone knew this was not true. Professor had explained to her that though she was part Deltan she did not carry the telepathic nodule in her brain that cause the madness in others. Her father would not hear her. After nine long years of this abuse, just as she was beginning to believe she was the evil her father feared, a star ship carrying recruits for Star Fleet academy landed at the colony.

Persephone remembered the professors wish for her to enter and so she packed a small bag of belongings and escaped her fathers home. Once the ship left the planets surface with her on board bound for Star Fleet academy Persephone had felt a surge of excitement and peace. She had known this was her destiny. Her initial reaction to the sheer size of the academy was shock. Nothing in her small world could have prepared her for it. Over the next few years of study Persephone would discover that her need for knowledge had been like a withering flower needing water. She simply absorbed information as if her life depended on it. She had begun to receive attention from the opposite sex. Fearing that her heredity would cause a similar fate as her parents, Persephone had requested a medical examination. The doctors results stated that she did have similar, though not as powerful, pheromone releases as those of a full blooded Deltan. She was told that she was not a threat to any lover, but to be aware that she could attract attention during certain cycles. This caused her to be more observant of the behaviour of people around her and she found that it interested her. Her lack of social skills did not stop her curiosity and so she had taken up study in the fields of psychology. Persephone enjoyed helping people by knowing how the mind works so she took medical as a minor. Her love for Geology had driven her to master all she could in Planetary Science. Persephone made sure that when the time came for her to prove herself, she would be ready for it.

USS Sheridan

Upon completion of the Academy, Persephone was assigned to the USS Sheridan as a science officer.

Within hours of boarding the ship she was called to the bridge for her first assignment. Upon entering the bridge Persephone learned they were to assist the Philadelphia and attempt to break through the dampening effect.

Nox was tasked with reconfiguring the deflector so that a burst could break through the damper. The risks were high that the damage to the deflector after such a large burst could cause damage to the ship as well. In the meantime the ship came under attack from a Klingon ship that decloaked and had attempted to start towing away the Armstrong. Once the Sheridan had fought off the Klingon vessel and caused them to retreat Persephone gave the figures to the Commander. After giving the odds to the commander Persephone was given the order to fire. The blast seemed to have done the trick in breaking through the damping field, however the blast cause the deflector to take damage and caused an explosion that took the lives of 8 crew members.

Persephone did not take this well and at the end of the mission, she returned to her quarters were she fought her own emotional battle against her childhood traumas. Persephone wept, on the floor, in her dark closet trying to release some of the pain she felt for the loss of so many innocent lives lost to the push of her button.
