1970 – Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling declares that large doses of Vitamin C can ward off the common cold. Though the medical community immediately voiced strong opposition to this idea, many ordinary people believed Dr. Pauling, and began taking large amounts of vitamin C.
2013 – NASA launches the MAVEN probe to Mars, on a mission to study the loss of the planet's atmospheric gases to space, providing insight into the history of the planet's climate and water.
2403 – The USS Drake, CL-2509 launched from the Star Base Alpha Shipyards in response to the continuing threat of war against the United Federation of Planets, with Alexander Lorien as commanding officer.
