Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge (NCOIC)

An NCOIC, or Non-Commissioned officer in Charge is an NCO who has been placed in limited command authority over others in a unit, or department. Generally speaking NCOICs are held by Senior enlisted members of Star Fleet and serve as both administrative leaders as well as combat leaders of small groups of lower enlisted. NCOICs can be traced back to early Earth Military history. While the term itself comes from the English language, similar terms have been found all over the world, and date back as far as organized military.
