Nehret is a fatal transmittable Klingon virus.

It lays dormant for years, and can suddenly afflict mature Klingons at any time. Instead of regarding this as an illness, many Klingons refer to it being an effect of "old age."

Voyager's EMH was able to cure the disease when it was discovered that B'Elanna Torres' unborn baby had developed an immunity to it, due to the baby being three-quarters Human.

Unlike many other diseases, Nehret is not filtered out by 24th century Federation biofilters.

• As a result, the disease was carried aboard USS Voyager by a ship of Klingons who had traveled for over a century to the Delta Quadrant.
