The Nakai are a pre-industrial species of humanoids inhabiting the Northern forest region of the planet Kryn'tor. The Nakai are humanoids of average human height with brightly-coloured fur covering their entire bodies. They have muzzle like mouth-nose arrangements with sharp teeth, and triangular-shaped ears. Their stature is thickly built, broad shouldered and heavily muscled. They live a seemingly hunter-gatherer existence in villages consisting of collections of primitive wooden huts.
At some point in the past the Nakai had encountered humans who taught them Federation language. The details of how this happened are shrouded in mystery. A USS Copernicus, GEC-9035 away team stumbled into their territory on Stardate 20811.22 believing Kryn'tor to be uninhabited by sentient life. After an initially hostile greeting the Nakai elders offered the away team hospitality (see Copernicus Mission logs "If it Looks too Good to Be True").
The Nakai are aware of, but seem to have little contact with the technologically advanced Joran people who inhabit Kryn'tor's Equatorial Desert Region. The two seem to peacefully co-exist on the planet.
