Admiral Chugra Bloodtail recording for Rear Admiral Tam Otlan. Admiral Tam Otlan, along with his Chief Medical Officer, Commander Ysiadina Lanael, were sent on a mission by Star Fleet Intelligence. The nature of the mission is unknown to me and I have not received official explanation as of this recording.

In his absence, Admiral Otlan placed his First Officer, Captain Vaebn Tei, in command of the USS Comet. They were to wait until Otlan and Lanael returned from within a spatial rift, and return to base. However, that did not happen.

Shortly after Admiral Otlan and Commander Lanael left our space, the Comet received an automated distress call. Responding to the call, they discovered a derelict Mirak warship floating in space. They boarded and secured the vessel and found a few survivors in suspended animation. The survivors were awakened and questioned by Captain Tei.

The vessel was drifting for several months, having been attacked by the unknown aliens that invaded Federation Space the previous year and left to parts unknown. The Comet crew tractored the Mirak warship and returned it to their own space. A Mirak patrol, not realizing the Comet had rescued their sister ship, opened fire on the Comet, intent on destroying her, until the Mirak Captain intervened at the expense of his vessel. The Mirak sent an official apology to Star Fleet for the misunderstanding and the damage to the Comet was minimal.

Upon their return to the rift site, the Comet waited on point for more than a week beyond Admiral Otlan's deadline before giving up and returning to base. I have reassigned all Comet crew and ordered the ship repaired for reassignment to a new Commanding Officer.

It is my sad duty to report both Rear Admiral Tam Otlan and Commander Ysiadina Lanael, missing in action.

Commander Lanael and I, while having lunch with Captain Syntranos, Commanding Officer of the USS Gettysburg and an old friend of both Yssy and I, were interrupted by Vice Admiral William Blake of Star Fleet Intelligence. He informed us that Star Fleet wanted us to take a small ship into the 'Mirror Universe' for a recon mission. Apparently an area of weakened space was discovered that can easily bridge our two universes and Star Fleet wants to make sure we're in no danger of invasion.

Little is known about the mirror universe as it's believed to be a place under constant power struggle where governments and galactic powers shift alliances and levels of power at an alarming rate.

I have placed Captain Vaebn Tei, my First Officer in command of the Comet and Commander Paul White, our Chief of Security will act as his First Officer.

My hope is that Yssy and I will return with useful information and more, we will complete our mission without ever having to meet anyone from that side of the fence.

Should we not return, I have ordered Captain Tei to take the Comet back to Starbase Bravo to report our loss. At that point I would assume the Federation would begin to prepare for war.

Rear Admiral Otlan and Commander Lanael have departed on their covert mission. The shroud of secrecy about their destination unnerves me, especially since he left me with orders to return to Starbase Bravo should they not return in eight days.

Until then we’re ordered to maintain our position and guard the area surrounding the rift to ensure that no other ships attempt to follow the Admiral as well as ensure that no ships emerge from the other side of the rift. To that end I’ve placed the Comet on yellow alert and general quarters two until further notice. All departments have begun to run through readiness drills and I’ve upped security patrols. My hope is that this mission will continue to run smoothly, but in the event that it doesn’t I want to be prepared for anything.

Until that rift opens again all we can do is wait.

The Comet received an automated distress call from the Mirak Heavy Cruiser Jaguar while guarding the location of the rift in space that Rear Admiral Otlan and Commander Lanael went through. The message was badly garbled but I decided to divert the Comet from its mission in order to render assistance.

When we dropped out of warp at the message’s point of origin we found the Jaguar a wrecked hulk adrift in space surrounded by her own debris. Sensors detect no life signs and nearly no power from the Cruiser; they also can find no indication of what happened here. I’ve ordered my Acting First Officer, Commander White to take an away team over to the Jaguar and attempt to access her computer core. Hopefully that will fill in the blanks and tell us what turned a Heavy Cruiser into so much interstellar debris.

We’ve also begun beaming some of the debris aboard the ship in order to discern if the Jaguar was indeed attacked and if so who attacked her.

While the Mirak are somewhat behind the Federation in technology, I fear that whatever destroyed the Jaguar could be a threat to Admiral Otlan’s return from wherever he is. We deployed a probe to contact us of any change in the rift but it will take us time to get back there, time we may not have if the Admiral’s shuttle comes through under attack.

The past few days have been nothing but nightmare for me. First I meet Lieutenant Junior Grade Croma, now a Lieutenant, though with his attitude I don't see how he could have possibly been promoted. He is the type who does whatever he pleases no matter what the consequences may be.

He is a complete jerk in my opinion, who has a very large Cardassian ego. Someone needs to take him down a few levels.

Midshipsman Bren seems pleasant enough as does our Security Chief Commander Paul White. I think working with them will make up for having to put up with Croma.

I received a message from my father a few minutes ago. The first message in eight years, since the day he almost killed my mother and was sent to a penal colony for treatment.

He wants to see us, but I'm not ready for that. I don't know if I ever will be. There is so much anger, so much hatred... yet a part of me misses him, although there is no love. Maybe I'll talk to the counselor, maybe not I'll just have to see.

Lieutenant Commander Wyatt Miller recording:

After spending a relaxing, yet eventful shoreleave on starbase, I have now returned to duty. The Comet has once again departed from spacedock on a mission for the Federation. This is my third mission as Chief Surgeon on this ship and my fourth mission serving under Admiral Otlan.

I'm excited at the very adventurous nature of the previous missions, yet slightly concerned. Being on a battleship often causes the medical staff to see some of the most serious injuries in the fleet. However, I am confident in the ability of both the command and medical staff. To ensure the safety of this crew is our primary objective and we will perform to the best of our abilities.

I have begun hpothermia and oxygen depravation treatment of the Comet away team. Apparently, it was someone's bright idea to beam aboard a Mirak vessel that has been adrift for months without scanning the conditions first or even wearing an EVA suit.

A minute or two longer and the away team could have been killed. While not getting a straight answer from anyone, I am determined to find out who is responsible for this severe "mishap" and report to the FO, or if warranted the JAG office for this sector.

Against my advice, the First Officer ordered Commander White to take his away team back to the Mirak vessel. Shortly thereafter, the body of a dead Mirak was beamed to Sickbay and we were warned that he could be infectious. Since Captain Tei asked Sickbay to preform an autopsy, Lieutenant Ordax and I transported the body to Quarantine Room 2. I have preformed more autopsies than I want to remember in my time in Star Fleet, but they have all been on humanoid species. Preforming one on a feline species will be difficult. I only hope that I am able to find something of use to the away team aboard the Mirak vessel.

The autopsy of the Mirak officer led to more questions than answers. We still have no idea who attacked the Mirak ship. Whoever the attackers were, however, used bladed weapons—at least on the Mirak we autopsied—with anti-coagulants; a nasty weapon in my opinion. Even the smallest cut could lead to death if not treated quickly enough.

At first I thought it might be the work of Klingons—they prefer hand-to-hand combat—but even they don't use anti-coagulants on their weapons. I would assume that is considered less than honorable. After some research, I did come across one race that used anti-coagulants in their weapons: The Dominion. I seriously doubt it could've been them, but if it was, this is a danger not only to the Mirak but the stability of the entire Alpha Quandrant.

On another note, we beamed aboard half a dozen stasis chambers from the Mirak vessel, and managed to revive the people within, including the Mirak CO, Swiftclaw. After a brief scuffle in Sickbay with the dazed and confused Mirak, they accepted that we were not their enemy and were there only to render assistance. Since I have found nothing that could allow me to quarantine them any further, I am allowing the Mirak party to meet with Captain Tei.

Cdr Paul White USS Comet BB-102 Acting First Officer

With RAdm Otlan and Cdr. Lanael on a secret mission through a rift in this sector the Comet has been left to its own devices. And with Capt. Tei having been left in charge I have been appointed as the Acting First Officer.

Things are going smoothly and some drills have been planned. With the exception of discovering some wreckage which apparently has come from a Mirak ship. Though there is currently no indication of what caused it.

With a close shave with the away team I led we are currently about to return to the wreckage in EV suits to try and discover the cause for the destruction.

Well this mission has been interesting so far. With Otlan and the Doc off on a secret mission through some sort of rift in space we have just been left here in case something happens.

Though its not all bad with Tei in command for the mission I have been made Acting First Officer. Which is good I guess...gives security a chance to be a bit more independent and T'Nel is running some simulations soon.

We did discover a Mirak ship...destroyed. I was sent over leading an away team...we almost froze to death if the transporter hadn't gotten us back to sickbay. It was close though, the environment of the ship really should have been scanned better before sending us over there and I don't think the doc's are too happy about it.

Either way were going back again but this time in EV Suits. Hopefully we'll find some indication as to what has happened...

I can already get a bit of a feel for what life in Star Fleet will be like - long, slow periods interspersed with frenetic events. Training moved kind of slow (as, I suppose, it has to), then I got my posting and was expected to report to the ship immediately... and now I find myself waiting once more.

I suppose I need to get out of the mindset that I set the timetables, and accept that I have to prove that I can function according to some sort of cosmic schedule of events.

I've heard crew members talking about a Mirak vessel and some sort of artifact that has been brought onboard... as well as some Mirak survivors that are now with us. I don't know anything about them, but I have a feeling that won't be a boring first meeting.

Life, it seems, has been eventful for the USS Comet of late.

I hope Raluca isn't too angry at me for not being able to stop at home before being posted here. I didn't intend to lie to her when I said I would stop by... I just no longer had the control that I once had.

We've managed to get a recording device that was salvaged from the Mirak vessel connected to the ship's computer, though it appears to have been encrypted in some rudimentary way. The computer appears to be able to break the encryption, but there are protocols to consider as well.

It appears that the recorder is more than a "black box", but rather contains personal logs and things of that nature. Accessing its data would go well beyond simply trying to find out what happened... I'd be pretty bent out of shape if someone took a device like that from a ship I was on and accessed it without permission. I'm sure the Captain will tread lightly with the Mirak.

Met Midshipman Percival in the science lab. Seemed a little frazzled. I can imagine that being onboard the Mirak vessel and seeing all the corpses couldn't have been easy.

Once we finish work with the data recorder, I think I'll head over to sickbay. I've heard that things got a little hairy over there, and since it's always the technology that suffers in a conflict... I'm sure there will be plenty for me to do.

I've downloaded all the data from the data recorder to the computer, and am just now verifying the contents to make sure we have everything we need. For some reason, the Mirak aren't completely forthcoming in the data that we have on the Vipers. At the end of the day, though, we need to make sure we know what we need to in order to defend ourselves and our ship.

Scary beasts, though, those Vipers - the video segment of the actual assault was chilling in how efficient they are at what they do. If we ever actually encounter them, it's pretty clear that our best option is to blow up their ship before they can board... although, the Mirak clearly weren't successful in that attempt, either.

I have a feeling the next couple of days will be pretty intense - starting with the Mirak reaction when they find out their data recorder was damaged.
