Miri as seen from orbit

Miri is an inhabited planet, located in the FGC-347601 (Beta Persei) system of the Alpha Quadrant.
The third planet in its system, it is considered Class M, and is the homeworld of humanoids that referred to themselves as the "Onlies."
A pre-warp species, the Onlines have reduced themselves to a subset of their previous population. The planet orbits a yellow dwarf star.

As documented by the USS Enterprise, Miri was very similar to the planet Earth.
With a circumference of 24,874 miles, a mass of 6×1021 tons, a mean density of 5.517 g/cm3, and an atmosphere of nitrogen and oxygen,
Miri was a prime example of "Hodgkin's Law of Parallel Planetary Development." It appeared to be an exact duplicate of the planet Earth in composition.

History

The entire adult population of the Onlies' homeworld (referred to as "Grups" by the Onlies) was killed in a failed microbiological life prolongation experiment in the mid-1960s. For the next four centuries, the planet existed as an arrested culture.

In 2266, a distress signal from this planet was received on the USS Enterprise. Upon arriving at the planet, the Away Team found the streets deserted, and the buildings dilapidated.
Initial surveys showed that the population consisted of only children, who referred to themselves as "Onlies."

After Dr. McCoy discovered a cure for the virus, which had also kept the children's ages stagnant, the Enterprise arranged with Starfleet for teachers and advisors to be sent to this planet so they could aid the Onlies in rebuilding their civilization.

Miri was established as a protectorate of the Federation in 2266. The capital city was documented as "New York City," and the dominant species being the humanoid Onlies. In 2378, 13.1 million Onlies lived on this planet.

After its discovery and rebuilding, the Federation began to colonize the planet.

The pathogen of the disease that had destroyed the entire adult population was classified as a filterable virus, order 2250-67A.
