P'Jorya's father, Georg, is a human of Scandinavian Viking decent. He has always had the "wanderlust" as he liked to call it. When he wasn't able to get into Star Fleet, he and his best friend, Søren Thorp, who had dreams of becoming a pilot, decided to sign on to a trading vessel together in order to see the galaxy. During his first shore leave, he was strolling through the market when he spotted this tiny wisp of a creature shopping at the local flower stand. He went up and introduced himself and the rest they say, is history.

P'Jorya's mother, Akila, on the other hand, is of a more motley decent. Her father was a Betazoid from the Thirteenth House of Betazed. Akila's mother was a Mirak, though a sub-species mix between Leo and either Jubata or Onca. Not much is known about the specifics, and Akila's mother rarely talked about it, but their family was very prominent, with many members in government. Fearing the rising control of her family, a rival or possibly several rivals hired a band of mercenaries to do whatever was necessary to ensure the downfall of Akila's family. It was not an easy task, resulting in a lot of bloodshed and death, with the eventual culmination of Akila's grandmother being pregnant with Akila's mother. With the whole family being dishonored by the sub-species birth, they were exiled from their home and they left Oranth. Akila's mother grew up and ultimately met and married her father. They never expected to be able to have children, but after many years and too much surprise, Akila was born.

P'Jorya's parents are currently alive, married, and semi-retired from their trading business. They are presently still flying around space attempting to "see more of the galaxy".

One older brother, Søren Aksel, deceased at 30 years of age

Personal History

For P'Jorya or PJ, as she was known to those closest to her, her childhood was a great one. Growing up on her parent's trading vessel, seeing new places, meeting all sorts of different creatures and species, was an exciting journey for such a curious and adventurous kid. Even the periods in between, when they were on the ship for days, she would love to play hide and seek among the cargo containers, or exploring the inner workings of the ship. Her mother even managed to make their education an adventure, to the point that P'Jorya even found adventure in her mother's onboard lab, conducting experiments or running samples from the places they visited. When she wasn't able to do any of those things, she found her adventure in the vast amount of books their parents kept on board. All this left her growing up to feeling like the galaxy was her playground.

When she was around 8 years old, her father's best friend Søren, whom her older brother was named after, had lost his wife along with the meaning of his life. He was no longer able care of his son 12 year old son, Alekzander, or Zan as they all took to calling him, so her parents took him in. Zan and P'Jorya's brother Søren, then 14 years old, became instant and practically inseparable best friends. P'Jorya idolized her brother and would often follow the two of them around and join in whatever they were doing. They would tease her and goad her about being "just a girl", but she was always able to keep up with them and do everything they could. Regardless of their teasing, if anyone outside their family tried to pick on her or give her a hard time, they were always right there defending and protecting her. In fact the whole family was the same way.

When P'Jorya's brother, who received more of their mother's Mirak genes than she had, got older he started to want more than just a trader's life. He wanted to make more money, even though their parents made a pretty good living from trading. It just didn't seem to be enough for him so he turned to smuggling. At first it was just a small package here and there, hidden among their cargo, unbeknownst to his parents. Then as he started getting paid more and even got some regular runs, it had reached a point where his parents either realized what was happening or could no longer deny what their son was doing. Not willing to risk their family, its safety or their livelihood, and Søren being unwilling to give up smuggling, it was decided he would leave and amicably go his own way.

With Søren gone, Zan and PJ both felt the loss of his presence deeply and at first it left them unsure of how to interact with each other. Eventually, after a mishap or two, not to mention a few practical jokes, the awkwardness passed. Over time, their relationship became ever closer and ultimately moved past a feeling of just friendship to one of deep affection and admiration, then love. However soon after, Zan came of age and decided he was going to join Søren. Zan wanted to become established, have his own ship, and some steady income before he planned to come back and ask PJ to marry him. This all took him a good part of three years of non-stop smuggling to accomplish his goal. He did, however, take PJ with him when he was finally able to buy his ship.

Their wedding was a small affair, taking place on their new home, the ship Ba'hiti, which they had picked out together. Georg officiated, with Søren as best man and a few close friends and family in attendance. Zan's father even put in an appearance, but only long enough to attend the ceremony, congratulate the couple and welcome PJ into the family. For a wedding present, Zan presented PJ with a rare albino Targ pup he had managed to buy cheaply from a Klingon, who viewed the Targ's abnormalities as weaknesses. She named him Meatball because that's what he looked like when he was all curled up.

The first year of PJ's marriage was the happiest of her life, which is saying something since she has always been a pretty happy person. Again, the galaxy was her playground, only now she had a playmate to enjoy it with. She found that she even made a pretty good smuggler. Not keen on some of the seedier aspects of the profession, tending to gravitate towards the more altruistic jobs, she would use her minor Betazoid gift to help out during negotiations and business transactions.

P'Jorya has always had the ability to tell if a person was lying or even just not being completely forthright. When she was really young she didn't understand. People would just sort of vibrate around their edges and sometimes turn a yellowish shade. At first her parents thought something was physically wrong with her, but as she got older and witnessed her brother trying to lie to get out of trouble, she began to realize what it meant. It was her mother that attributed it to her Betazoid heritage, though neither Akila nor Søren seemed to receive any such gifts. Only those in her immediate family even know she has the abilities, which is how she likes it.

Though Zan would prefer to keep PJ on their ship and away from the dodgier people they sometimes dealt with, her gift was too valuable to not use it to their advantage. She would often go with Zan and her brother during their meetings or deliveries, giving them extremely subtle hints as to the honesty and straightforwardness of the people they were dealing with. It would even help them negotiate better prices, by the responses to questions raised by Zan or Søren. It was almost a game to the three of them and one they were all very good at.

Eventually, that game became a harsh and brutal reality. Unfortunately, no one could tell how it came about.

For PJ, her world came crashing down around her the day she woke up in the medical ward on Rigel X and she had no recollection of how she got there. At first, no one would tell her anything for fear she would go into shock, although they would never tell her that directly. Once they decided she was strong enough, they brought in the doctor and some local security official. Unfortunately, they had little they could tell her and they seemed to need more answers than they could provide.

From all they knew, she was found in an escape pod orbiting the planet. There was some debris in space that matched two ships, one they identified as her brother Søren's and another that was still unidentified. There were scorch marks on some of the debris, but they could not tell her any more than that. No other bodies were found or recovered. In due course, the security officials had declared Søren and Zan dead. It took six men to hold her down and keep her from leaping from the bed before the nurse could sedate her.

Eventually, she was released, but she felt so profoundly lost that she never made it farther than across the street from the hospital. Located there was a local boarding establishment where she checked herself in and stayed until the day her mother found her and made her come stay with them on their ship. She remained with her parents for a few months, finding some comfort in the familiarity of it all. It also brought home the stark reality of Zan and Søren's missing presence. Before long she announced to her parents that they had to take her back and against their better judgment they complied.

Despite the fact that her parents tried to dissuade her, PJ knew she had to be aboard her ship, that she needed to keep smuggling. It was like she could feel the two men pulling at her from somewhere beyond, urging her forward. Before long, she was moving that way on her own, taking one smuggling job after another, never slowing down or she'd be forced to feel the loss in her heart. She mostly took what she considered to be benign jobs, like smuggling medicines or antiquities, and avoided any jobs involving weapons or drugs.

This was exactly what she was doing when she made a delivery to an undercover Star Fleet Intelligence agent. The agent was impressed with her, however, and suggested she be given the opportunity to join Star Fleet in lieu of prison. For some reason, the judge agreed.
