Personal History
Daniel had what he considers to be a normal childhood, if you consider living in the shadow of Eutopia Planetia shipyards normal. His father worked as a design engineer at the facility and would often take Daniel to see the ships as they were being assembled. This was Daniel's first exposure to Star Fleet and began a life-long love of spacecraft.
On one of their outings, when he was 12, Daniel was separated from his father. As he wondered through a dimly lit area of the ship, he tripped over a beam lying on the deck. When he fell, Daniel hit his head just above his eye. The impact broke the bone above his eye and his nose and left a gash across Daniel's right eyebrow, causing him to pass out. Somehow, the fall did not cause any damage to the eye or optic nerve. A work crew found Daniel sometime later, still unconscious, but no longer bleeding. Doctors were able to repair the damage to the bone, but because of the elapsed time before he could be treated, Daniel was left with a distinct scar.
When he was 15, Daniel's family moved back to Earth, near San Francisco. Daniel had loved watching the starships come and go at his old home, and soon found the shuttle traffic around San Francisco equally fascinating. Dreaming of someday flying one of the craft he had often watched, Daniel entered Star Fleet Academy, specializing in tactical. Daniel spent several years as a tactical officer on a variety of starships. After spending this time in the field, Daniel found his second love, teaching, and returned to Earth to be an instructor at the Academy. After spending time as an instructor, Daniel moved into an administrative capacity at the academy. Most recently he was promoted to Commander and made a Senior Evaluator
