Personal History

Kyle worked in the family business and lived within the smallish community of miners within the BAB (Bregdain Asteroid Belt) his whole life. The educational system for children within the BAB was virtual, attending by video conference with his classmates and instructors over a computer. But the life of a mining family provided little time for idle hands. Kyle grew up at his father's knee, working to keep the mining equipment and prospecting jeeps functioning so ore could be mined and delivered to Bregdain City. A natural wrench-jockey, Kyle took over as the lead mechanic; he kept the equipment humming and the small mining vessels working in top form (often with little more than spit and bubblegum).

Of his siblings, Kyle had always been the one with that far-off look in his eyes, day-dreaming of opportunities to explore and visit new worlds and new places.

Life in a mining community wasn't all hard work and no play. One of the biggest events in the BAB was the Belt Sprint - a mad dash along a beacon-marked course that wove through the asteroid belt while piloting nothing but a prospector's jeep. Kyle would often spend his spare time practicing his piloting skills or working on his jeep, adding improvements or modifications to the small ship's main engine or the jeep's steering thrusters. Kyle won his first sprint at the age of eighteen and by the time he was twenty-one, he'd taken first place in three of the last four sprints.

When he was twenty-two, his fiancé Beth Johanson, came down with a lethal case of Rigilian flu. Everyone had loved Beth, and it seemed like everywhere Kyle went, there were reminders of the woman he had loved. Kyle felt like he needed to get away from all of the reminders of Beth. Once again his eyes turned towards the stars. Kyle researched the process for enrolling with Starfleet and was accepted at the Academy on Earth. Once accepted to the Academy, Kyle shared his plans with his family. His father, KD, took the news hard. KD had little love for Star Fleet or the bureaucracy that was so prevalent within the Federation. Kyle's plan to join Star Fleet created some pretty intense conflict between him and his father.

Education:

The mining community of BAB invested heavily in the education of their children. Along with maintaining approved standards within the federated planets of math and science, The community placed a strong emphasis in trade and in safety procedures that pertain to the harsh life of living conditions within an asteroid belt. Kyle picked up strong skillsets in the mechanical and electrical fields that would serve well in departments such as Ship's Operations or Engineering.

Kyle, an intuitive thinker, was often called on to troubleshooting problems and make repairs to small ships, mining jeeps, and equipment throughout the BAB Community. Also quite inventive, his ability to think outside of the box came in handy when figuring out how to hold things together with duct-tape, bubblegum, and bailing wire when needed.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Engineering
Academy Minor(s): Tactics, Engine Design, Piloting, Plasma Physics
Hobbies and Pastimes: Martial arts, swimming, laser-tag, and zero-g sports.
Short-Term Goals: Kyle hopes to repair the frayed relationship with his father. At twenty-one and just "escaping" from the back end of no-where (the Bregdain Asteroid Belt), Kyle came to the Academy with little thought of his future other than exploring Federation space and visiting new worlds and experiencing new cultures. That wanderlust was still very much a part of him. He wanted to do well in his career but he also wanted to see what he can see.
Long-Term Goals: Kyle's long term goals were to make a career out of Star Fleet. He hoped to one day be a Chief Engineer aboard one of Star Fleet's starships. After retirement Kyle hopes to settle down someplace where he can use his skills on a part-time basis while raising a family on a full-time basis. Kyle hope's he never has to work another mining claim.
Personality: Kyle tends toward a positive outlook and is often the first one to step up and help a fellow out
Sense of Humor: A strong sense of humor and a fondness for a good laugh
Phobias: None that he is aware of.
Likes: Teamwork, the stars, meeting new people and visiting new worlds, and a good wrench.
Dislikes: People that don't hold their own and those that try to intimidate him.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: People that can't seem to keep their word
Bad Habits or Vices: He thinks he can sing (for crying out loud - don't let him sing Happy-Birthday - OMG he sucks!), and he can carry a joke or prank just a little too far…
Achievements: Kyle won the Belt Sprint (a run through a course in the Bregdain asteroid belt in customized single-seat ships designed for speed and maneuverability) and has several awards from martial arts competitions and team sports like Laser-tag.
Disappointments: Kyle was disappointed with the way his Pops reacted when he found out Kyle had enrolled at the Academy. There's some hurt feelings there…
Illnesses: Nothing major - he had a few broken bones here and there from sports or working the mining claims.
Strengths: Naturally athletic - he has a good sense of balance, is quick and strong for his build of body. He is Intuitive, inventive, and works well with others.
Weaknesses: Singing (see Bad habits/Vices!!!!)
Fears: Being helpless
Prejudices: Ferengi - they'd sell their own mothers if the coin was right…
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Casual
Distinguishing Features: Largish tattoo of a Beo-Kat on his right arm.
Friends: Torry Jepp

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Loss of fiancé his when he was twenty-two. An outbreak of Rigilian Flu hit Bregdain City and Kyle's fiancé, Beth Johanson, was a casualty.
Best Time: Winning his third Belt Sprint by less than a full second against his nearest competition.
Most Crucial Experience: When Kyle finally left the Bregdain Belt that had been his home until then.
Role Model: His father KD.
