Personal History

Dresden was born on Alpha Eridani II to Montford and Tara McNair, humanitarian workers for a relief organization based in the Alpha Quadrant. Montford McNair was a soldier who fought in the Dominion Wars where he was injured, blessing him with the fortune of meeting his future wife Tara McNair (Nee' Floyd) on a Federation hospital ship. After the war, the two left the service to join a small humanitarian organization known as No Borders and living as best a pacifist lifestyle as they could. During this time the two had their only child Dresden. Dresden spent most of his childhood on the aidship SS Oskar Schindler, which made frequent trips to Bajor and surrounding planets providing relief. His parents taught him a curriculum any other child would have though sometimes a Vulcan colleague named Turik would substitute for them. Turik was also a mentor for Dresden, teaching him some of the meditation techniques Vulcan children learned at his age and also how to play Khalto.

Around the age of 7, the Oskar Schindler began making regular stops near Altair III, where Dresden met (at the time) Specialist 2nd Class Reginald Hendrix. Though visits to Altair III were short, they were regular enough that Dresden began to see Hendrix as an older brother and role model (with slight disagreance from Turik). Around the age of 10, Hendrix joined Star Fleet, telling Dresden he'll see him out there one day. It would be many years before the two would meet again.

Sometime around 20810, The Oskar Schindler was headed towards Bajor to provide food and medical supplies when it was attacked by Cardassian raiders. The ship was pursued into the Badlands Sector before shot down, crash landing on a small planet. The planet had an abnormally strong electromagnetic field disrupted the ship's communciations ability, making it impossible to send a distress signal off the planet. They had the necessities to survive, but unfortunately the crew of the ship was marooned. Months later, a face familiar to Dresden appeared on the planet, unsure of how he got there. The new arrival brought information of an abandoned comms relay several days away from the crash site and preparations for an expedition were made. The expedition was successful and a distress beacon with the coordinates to the Oskar Schindler. Unfortunately it was a passion Orion Syndicate ship that detected the signal. The ship took everyone aboard, planning to sell the crew into slavery. Several prisoners managed to escape the holding cells and send an SOS which was picked up by the USS Decatur (DD-4079). The Decatur intercepted the Syndicate ship which opened fire. As the two ships fought, the prisoners managed to make their way to the transporter room, trying to beam over to the Decatur, but were locked out. They then attempted to take engineering. On the way there, Dresden had to kill a Syndicate member, the shock of what he had just done left him unaware of the grenade that had been rolled into the corridor. The blast severely injured the adolescent, nearly taking off his leg and fracturing his skull from the concussive force. After being stabilized as best as the situation would allow, Turik stayed with Dresden until the two were beamed to the Decatur's sickbay where latter underwent several urgent surgery procedures that managed to treat the skull fracture and save his leg. Dresden was later informed while recovering from his injuries that a majority of the Oskar Schindler crew had been killed, his parents presumed among those casualties.

Dresden would be in recovery for two years. This news, along with the ordeal on the Syndicate ship caused Dresden to withdraw and become severely depressed. Turik, who assumed the role of his legal guardian, helped Dresden through this time by reteaching and helping him improve the meditative practices the Vulcan taught him when he was younger. Also during this time, Dresden met Cassidy Banks, a half Betazoid around his age who gave him the nickname "Raccoon" for the distinctive dark circles surrounding his eyes (A leave behind resulting from the cranial trauma and insomnia caused by his depression). The efforts of both Turik and Cassidy would be crucial in helping Dresden recover. In 21101 Dresden decided to enlist in Star Fleet Marine Corps, but was denied due to injuries recieved during the rescue. Understanding but unable to accept not being allowed admittance, he applied for Star Fleet Academy where he was accepted.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Security Operations, Shipboard Tactics
Academy Minor(s): Investigations, Starship Weapons Systems, Tactical Casualty Care, Self-Defense and Survival Training
Hobbies and Pastimes: Acoustic guitar, Sketching, Story writing, Martial Arts, Meditation.
Short-Term Goals: Master his meditation practices; Become a reliable member of a crew
Long-Term Goals: Make Captain, Find out fate of biological parents
Personality: Before Badlands period: Dresden was as happy-go-lucky and inquisitive as anyone his age at the time would have been. Due to his parents' pacifist beliefs, he didn't believe in violence and conflict scared him. While visits to Altair III and talks with his role model helped this fear, he still abhored violence.

During Badlands period: After the Oskar Schindler crashed, morale began to drop for the surviving crew as weeks turned into months. This was the beginning of the depression that would nearly consume him. After being rescued by the Decatur, the outcome of it caused Dresden to slip into a severe depression that manifested as severe insomnia and an intense anger. Turik gave him the tools and techniques to control this anger and give him a semblance of peace. Cassidy, though not able to completely bring him out of his introversion, she was able to give him some semblance of normalcy.

After Badlands period: Cool, calm, collected, and normally professional, he has even been mistaken for a Vulcan once or twice. While an asset during tense situations, it can make him seem a bit cold and standoffish in social settings, and a tendency to think but not speak doesn't help. He has tells that can sometimes be a dead giveaway to what he's thinking. Though it is never malicious, his responses can come as acerbic at times. He has a temper, but manages to keep it under control through focus and meditation. People who actually get to know him will find a kind, loyal soul.
Sense of Humor: Dresden has a sense of humor like anyone, but it's guarded to the point of coming off as not having one. The most he usually gives is an amused snort or chuckle, maybe a grin. Those closest to him have seen legitimate smiles and laughs, even jokes. A running joke at the academy was "What's the difference between Dresden and a Vulcan? A Vulcan at least knows what a joke is."
Phobias: Mildly cherophobic.
Likes: Pecan pie, orange chicken, ciddles, chess, khalto, the color blue
Dislikes: Coffee, high pitched noises/ shrill voices
Pet Peeves or Gripes: Arrogance, Being mistaken for a Vulcan
Bad Habits or Vices: Grinds teeth and pops clenched fists when aggitated
Achievements: Recovering from his injuries; Defeated his Hand-to-Hand Instructor his 2nd year at the academy.

Illnesses: Near amputation of his right leg in childhood, successfully surgically treated but "prone to ache and occasionally give out"; Treated for PTSD and depression. Skull fracture with preorbital ecchymosis (Raccoon eyes).
Strengths: His ability to remain cool under pressure allows him to focus and make sound decisions quickly. He is also a fast learner, able to improvise and adapt to overcome a situation quickly.
Weaknesses: Social skills could use work. Contrary to his dimeanor, Dresden has a very short temper.Tries to be a team player, but has lone wolf tendencies that can work against him at times. Fast thinker, but tends to overthink and get stuck in his head at times.
Fears: Failure, Being stuck in a transporter pattern buffer.
Prejudices: Cardassians and Orions
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Loose fitting shirt and pants in heavy fabrics in dark colors
Distinguishing Features: Small grey patch near right temple; Permanent dark circles around eyes (Raccoon eyes); Barely noticeable favoring of his left leg when standing or walking.
Pets: None
Friends: Cassidy Banks, Reginald Hendrix (See Parents' Status)

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Attempted rescue by the (DD-4079). Nearly lost his leg along with parents and role model.
Best Time: Watching Reggie convince Turik to sing Falor's Journey
Most Crucial Experience: The talk he had with Turik before being accepted to Starfleet Academy.
Role Model: Montford McNair, Tara McNair, Reginald Hendrix, Turik
