Personal History

Born an only child to William and Marjorie, his Father worked as a Civilian power plant operator and eventually became a Manager. Marjorie worked as a school teacher, specialising in history.

Alistair’s parents were loving but strict with their son, which in turn brought about some rebellion in his teens. But that never stopped him from loving either of them. His Mother was his go to person in times of need, with his Father being the disciplinarian of his parents. That was not to say Marjorie was soft, simply that her style of parenting was different.

Like many Fathers, William wanted nothing but the best for his Son and would push for him to do his very best at all times. Which of course he would always tried to oblige, until it came to a point in his mid teens, that was when Alistair would answer back and question everything. Little did he realise it was his Father’s wish for him to ask questions, not so much the answering back attitude.

Marjorie would teach him about history and various people who had made the universe what it was. People like James Tiberius Kirk, a famed starship Captain and his crew. But closer to his proverbial home, he learned about William Wallace a Scottish Knight and a man who fought for Scottish independence. Which gave Alistair the belief in fighting for what he believed in.

During his teens and as a way of discipline, William after becoming a manager at the power plant he worked at, put his son to work at the facility. The jobs he was given were not the cleanest of choices and purposeful on William’s part. That in turn gave the young man some drive and that extra motivation to work for what he wanted.

While he was at school Alistair began to hate his name and preferred to be known as Mac, for whatever reason he didn’t feel the name was manly enough. Something that those around him would not understand and the only person he would answer if they used his name was his Mother.

Upon graduating from Secondary School and while at college, Alistair went to work at the power plant and working in the operations room. It wasn’t the top of the ladder, nor did he expect it to be, though it certainly wasn’t in the dirtiest of positions. It did offer him some insight into mechanics and engineering, which he found interesting. To the point where he would take old components of the larger machines and dismantle them, learning how they worked and in some cases would find ways to make them work again. Though the parts he fixed were never used in the same capacity in the plant.

After leaving college Alistair applied to Star Fleet and was accepted to its Academy in the Engineering division. His main focus was on starship propulsion systems and design & development. Secondary studies included starship internal systems and basic piloting skills, which would taught him to fly shuttles and gave him the rudimentary abilities to fly a starship.

While at the Academy McLachlan met fellow Cadet Malcolm Finney, the two remained close friends from day one. They would frequently pair up on projects and would spend their time off together. It was during one of their outings that Malcolm and Mac met Moira and Mollie Finch, twin sisters. Moira would later become Alistair’s wife and Mother to their children Jennifer Juliet (JJ) and Rory Ewan.

Upon graduation from the Academy, Mac was assigned to the USS Birmingham, as a Junior Engineer. He worked hard as always and found that he had ambitions to join the SCE’s R&D department. A goal he achieved a few years later, seeing him assigned to Earth and working more or less exclusively in Berlin. There he worked for many years and very happily, mainly due to the fact that he would see his family most of the time. Both of Mac’s children later followed in his footsteps and joined Star Fleet, JJ became a Tactical Officer, specialising in flight control. Rory studied to become a Doctor, with a keen interest on one day becoming a Surgeon.

JJ was serving during the Krynar War, during which the ship she served on was involved in The Battle of Tellar. JJ was critically and near fatally injured during the engagement. She was hit by a flying piece of shrapnel, which breached her skull and caused brain damage. That in turn left her undergoing surgery after surgery and being in a coma for nearly two years. The damage was done and as such her memory was deeply affected, as was her abilities to function in various capacities. JJ was married at the time and lost her husband during the same battle, which in turn left her son Connor to be cared for by Moira and Mac.

While working on the development of one of Star Fleet’s newer classes of starships, Mac got into a heated dispute with a Senior Officer, during which he questioned the Officer’s knowledge and parentage. Which ultimately resulted in a disciplinary board and a reduction from the rank of Lieutenant Commander to Lieutenant. Along with a forced transfer to a line officer’s post on the USS Copernicus.
