The Mazarites are a species of humanoids from the planet Mazar, located in the Beta Quadrant.

Physiology

Mazarites are humanoids who resemble Humans in every way except for some differences around the eyes and temples. At the top of both cheeks, Mazarites possess two thick creases which run horizontally and parallel to each other from the cheekbone area and into the ears. Their eyebrows are thin and extended, continuing past the outsides of the eyes until they join the top skin creases. Additionally, Mazarites have jet black hair with wide, white streaks which begin at the temples and sweep back over the ears. It is common for Mazarite males to wear their hair swept tightly back and tied in a very short ponytail.

Technology

In the mid-22nd century, Mazarite technology was only slightly more advanced than that of Humans; their ships were able to fly a little faster, but they were far less advanced than the Vulcans. They employed warships which were capable of achieving speeds of at least warp 5.2. These warships possessed deflector shield technology, and also carried the ability to jam the communications of other starships within range. Most Mazarite warships carried a number of shuttlecrafts.

Though Mazarite society seemed to be advancing at a similar speed to that of Humans, it is unknown how their technology has developed in the years since this time.

History

The Mazarites hailed from the planet Mazar, where they had developed warp technology and forged relationships with several other alien species. By the 22nd century, they had become members of the Interspecies Medical Exchange. At one conference hosted by the Tiburonians in 2149, they were unable to detect the fact that one member of the Mazarite delegation was actually a Klingon doctor in disguise.

By 2152, a rogue organisation had secretly infiltrated the Mazarite government, manipulating political events to advance their cause and using any means necessary, including assassination, to protect their interests. A non-corrupt faction of the government discovered their presence but lacked the power or evidence necessary to remove this dangerous element, so they turned to the Vulcans for assistance. Over time, the Vulcan ambassador to Mazar built up a case against them that would make prosecution possible.

When she had gathered enough incriminating information, arrangements were made for false charges to be brought against her as a cover story to get her off the planet. She was picked up by the Enterprise, NX-01, but the corrupt faction discovered the ruse before the Star Fleet ship was able to escape. Mazarite warships were sent out to attack the Enterprise and bring the ambassador back to Mazar, where she would be silenced by death. Though the Enterprise was unable to outrun the ships, they managed to use trickery to delay the Mazarites long enough for a Vulcan starship to arrive and drive them off. The Vulcans allowed the Mazarites to return to their planet, and the ambassador, along with her information, escaped.

Whether or not the Mazarites were able to eliminate this corrupt element from their government, and what effect either outcome may have had on their relationship with the Federation, is unknown.
