Personal History

Hana and her twin brother, Hiro were born to a human mother, Mika Mayumi, and a Ktarian Father, Jorderrek at a Star Fleet Medical Facility in Tokyo, Japan. For the first 10 years of her life, Hana can only recall ever seeing her Father three times because his work as an Admiral in Star Fleet kept him away from Earth for many years. Her parents were never married to one another and Jorderrek seemed only concerned with his work rather than his children. Because of their heritage, Hana and Hiro grew quickly and by the age of four, the two had the height and intelligence of nine year olds, and were well aware of the differences between themselves and the other kids at school. For a while, Hana and Hiro would wear headscarves, hats, caps, anything that would cover their ridges but one day, at school, a bully ripped off their headgear and started screaming 'Freak!' at the two. For Hana, the bullying was upsetting but Hiro wasn't going to stand for it and fought back. By the time the two were five years old, both had been expelled from school for defending themselves in fights and Mika became determined to teach her children herself, despite having a restaurant to run, a new husband and a baby on the way.

Leaving the restaurant to her new husband, Tomi Kazuna, Mika began teaching her children traditional values, languages, creativity and more. The twins enjoyed learning from their mother and excelled with her teachings, however, Hana wanted to be with other people, and it didn't seem fair that she had to hide away from the world because of her heritage. Eventually, when her mother sent her to the shops to buy some herbs and food, Hana left without anything to cover her forehead, determined to be proud of who she was, and not who she wanted to be. Ironically, because of this action, she gained more friends than bullies. Proud of her achievement, Hana went out more often, determined to show that she was no longer afraid of being different in a predominantly human world.

Her real sense of achievement however, came at the age of six, when she returned from a shopping trip to find her heavily pregnant mother collapsed and bleeding. With brother, Hiro away and her stepfather at the other side of Tokyo City, Hana took it upon herself to alert the Star Fleet Medical Facility that her mother needed help. Thanks to Hana's heroics, both her mother and her newborn half sister, Jin survived. For Hana, it was a buzz because her actions made the difference between life and death. Both Hana and Hiro doted on their little sister but initially believed that within a few months, they would be able to play with Jin in games, and didn't understand that, because Jin was completely human, she'd grow at a much slower pace than the two of them. Eventually the two understood why Jin was so little and accepted her as she was, and even enjoyed seeing Jin grow gradually, though mused between themselves how slow Jin grew while by the time the Twins were age ten, they Physically, Intellectually and Psychologically at age fifteen. It was at age ten when their Father, Jorderrek paid more attention to the two of them and took them both on their first shuttle rides. It was only then that Hana seemed to take a keen interest in her father's work, and in flying. When Jorderrek let Hana fly the shuttle for the first time, she found it exhilarating and fascinating and wanted to know more, while Hiro seemed to have little interest in the goings on. When it was time to return home, Hana begged for her father to take her with him, wanting to know more of what her father did. He warned her that, if she went with him, she wouldn't see Hiro or Jin for three years, however despite this warning, Hana was determined to find out why her father was never around when they were young and said goodbye to Hiro, Jin and her mother and step-father, stepping into a whole new life, with a man who was really nothing more than a stranger to her, a stranger that offered her a new perspective of life.

During her time with her father, Hana soon understood why she'd never really seen him all her life. Her father was constantly on Deep Space missions with the USS Olympia, ones that lasted up to five years at a time, which left little or no chance to send messages home. She sent letters home whenever she could but at the end of each letter she wrote 'I'm sorry that its taken me this long to send you a letter, I haven't forgotten you, but there are very few relays to send messages out here. Love you loads'. For Hana, despite being away from the rest of her family, Hana relished her opportunity to learn from both her father and other members of staff, though also spent time with the children that were taken along on the Olympia, to give her a chance to let her hair down and act silly. She even got to play Hero a second time at age eleven when most of the crew were captured by rogue Ferengi. Hana, and two other children, Zoe Castillo, who was the same age as Hana, and Richard Reese, 13 were studying in their favourite spot in the Jeffries tubes when the attack happened. It was Richard, who was partially telepathic that alerted them to the fact that they had been boarded and the trio decided to find out where the others were and took off their commbadges so they couldn't be tracked. They soon found the crew in a cargobay and the circumstance gave the trio an idea. As most Star Fleet officers are trained in Zero G combat, they realised that by deactivating the gravity systems, the crew had a chance of overpowering the Ferengi and escaping however she'd need her father's codes to shut down the gravity. Writing what she needed on a PADD, Hana positioned herself at an air vent above the crew and dropped it on top of a crewman's head. After righting herself, the crewman picked up the PADD and read it before giving it to the Admiral and pointing up to the vent. Her father read the PADD for a moment before looking up and seeing his daughter wave at him. He smiled before turning back to his crew, ordering them to create a distraction while he gave the code to Hana silently in Ktarian. When she understood it, she nodded, held out her hands to signify ten minutes and disappeared back into the Jeffries tube, gathering her team of kids together, heading to the computer core. Luckily there was no one in the Computer Core so using her father's codes, she began accessing the gravity systems when Richard made another suggestion, to lock down the ship's controls so the Ferengi couldn't do anything with them. Hana wasn't sure about how to do that and stepped aside to allow Richard to play with the controls, tying the lockdown with the gravity systems and tracking where her father was as to when to activate gravity once more in each area. They put their plan into action and to their relief, the plan worked and Admiral Jorderrek retook the ship. For their efforts, Hana, Richard and Zoe received a commendation each. For Hana, it wasn't the Commendation that matter to her most, it was her Father's proud hug and smile that were much more precious.

At age 13, Hana returned to Earth with her father and the whole family spent the next five months together, sharing stories of their trials and tribulations. For Hana, it marked the beginning of a new life for her, because she knew what she wanted to do, and what she wanted to become. With her family's blessing, Hana was sent to a Star Fleet Prep School in San Francisco, California, though for the first year and a half she returned home every night as she missed her family and wanted to be with them, though as she grew older, she became more and more independent, spending more time with her friends than her family and by the time she was 15, she only returned home every second weekend, to keep in touch with her family. While in School, she joined the Basketball team and within a year she became Captain of the Basketball team and won her first championship at age 16. She also did Martial Arts, Velocity, ice-skating and for a year she also took singing classes. Hana enjoyed singing so much that she even commented that 'If she wasn't wanting to be in Star Fleet, she'd be a singer.

At age 17 she finally entered the Academy and was surprised when her best friend from the Olympia, Zoe Castillo had also been accepted into the Academy and both girls, to their delight were studying Tactical. The two girls helped each other in class, shared quarters for the four years at the Academy and during the summer, when there was no school, Hana and Zoe would travel to different places on Earth or Mars for a holiday. At the beginning of her third year however, Hana found out that her piloting skills had gotten her into Red Squad, the Academy's elite flying squadron. Excited, Hana was eager to get to know the squadron she was to be working with and was soon good friends with two of the squad, a Betazoid named Annie Daystrom and a human, Jason Andrews, the leader of Red Squad, who would soon become her boyfriend. For Hana, life couldn't get much better than what she had. A prospective career, was popular in the Academy, and had a boyfriend she cared about almost more than her career and to top it all, her squad was asked to perform flight maneuvers at the Federation Day celebrations. She was happy and contented with the future she worked so hard for.

However, things would soon go downhill as Federation Day approached. Their craft seem to be suffering one problem after another and despite claims of them being fixed, Hana became more and more reluctant to fly, believing that there was a disaster around the corner. Jason too seemed concerned but they couldn't back out of the celebrations and reassured Hana that things would be fine. On Federation Day, it seemed her fears were unfounded, as all the stunts seemed to go perfectly. That was until Annie alerted them to a problem with the computer controls. They weren't responding to commands before Jason could get out of her way, the two ships collided, resulting in an explosion that caused the two to die instantly while Hana and other members of the squad suffered damage, Stunned, Hana just sat in her seat as pain and anger took hold, shaking her head and her hands trembled with anger. She then reluctantly reported back that Annie and Jason were dead and ordered the rest of the squad to return to base. An inquest into their deaths were held and it turned out that the repairs that were done on their craft were done by Cadets and hadn't been checked by their instructors. Hana soon began to question her reasons for being in Star Fleet, however, as her father and guidance instructor pointed out after the inquest, Hana joined because she loved to fly, and Admiral Jorderrek told her not to give up on that dream, but carry on in their memory. Taking her Father's advice, Hana was given command of Red Squad in her Final year and promised to make sure the ships they flew were air worthy, even going as far as demanding a senior engineer checked every Cadet's handiwork and she watched many of them perform maintenance on the ships. Many Cadets believed that the reason she was so demanding was because she was now leader, when in truth, all she wanted was to prevent another accident. At the final Federation day, everything went perfectly and there were no other accidents on her watch in the year since she was in charge of Red Squad.

Now at age 21, Hana has graduated from the Academy third in her class and has been assigned to the USS Darwin, under the command of Commodore Kinziri Jal. For the young Ktarian/Human Hybrid, it is a chance to start a fresh page and begin a new life as a Tactician and leave behind her turbulent time in the Academy. She still has a tendency to refuse to fly or be flown in a shuttle that’s in any condition apart from pristine

Hobbies and Pastimes: Velocity, Swimming, Basketball, Ice Skating, Socialising. Martial Arts, Singing

Personality: Hana is an enigma of sorts. When off duty, Hana is soft spoken, laid back and can often act silly at times, making her friends and colleagues laugh, however, on duty she takes her work very seriously and is very clear in her words. She does have an optimistic side to her however, and when morale is low, chances are Hana will find a way to bring people's spirits up, even if a colleague or herself is injured. She knows when to let her hair down and can often seem child-like when she's trying to stifle a laugh or is embarrassed by something. She's also a confident woman and learns from her mistakes. She can be quite demanding also when it comes to shuttlecraft and single man ships and she refuses to pilot a shuttle that has something as small as a slight burn mark. This is because of an incident in her third year at the Academy and because of this, if she has to fly a shuttle, she'd be right by the engineers to make sure its perfect for flying and complains if it is anything but perfect
Sense of Humor: Hana has a generally good sense of humor. She gives as good as she gets though there is the odd occasion where she can take things a little too sensitively, like teasing about her hybrid heritage or someone teasing her family
Phobias: Hana hates snakes and spiders. As a 9 year old, she nearly died from a snakebite while on holiday in the Australian outback and often has panic attacks if she's near one or knows its there. She's also slightly claustrophobic and tenses up if she's trapped for sometime
Likes: To make friends with as many people as she can. To respect others for who they are
Dislikes: Being disrespected, feeling trapped people bullying others
Pet Peeves or Gripes: Hana can't stand low morale and tries to bring morale up in any way she can

Disappointments: Missed out on Velocity finals after becoming unwell with appendicitis. Not being able to share her enthusiasm for Star Fleet with her twin brother, Hiro. Losing her boyfriend, Jason Andrews and friend Annie Daystrom during flight practice for Federation Day
Illnesses: Hana nearly died from a snakebite as a child but other than that she has no known illnesses
Strengths: Hana has great dexterity in her hands, making her piloting efforts seem quite nimble. She also understands five spoken languages (Federation Standard, Japanese, Klingon, Ktarian and Romulan) and is observant of her surroundings and has the ability to lip read
Weaknesses: She's an adrenaline junkie and often pushes the boundaries between bravery and stupidity when it comes to stunt flying. She can often be blunt in her words while on duty
Fears: Being trapped, being alone. Crashing a shuttle or ship
Prejudices: She can't stand bullies and tends to express that opinion openly
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Hana tends to wear clothes that are floaty and flowing while on board ship
Distinguishing Features: 4 Ktarian hornspikes down the middle of her forehead. Youthful appearance
Pets: None
Friends: Zoe Castillo, 21 - Assigned to USS Jameson

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Her most painful experience was in the Academy when she saw her boyfriend, Jason Andrews and her friend, Annie Daystrom die during practice for Federation Day performances. An investigation later on revealed it as a tragic accident after Annie's controls failed to respond in time, colliding with Jason's craft. Since that day Hana hasn't had another boyfriend and she has also been extremely demanding on engineers who maintain craft
Best Time: When Hana was six years old, she saved her mother, Mika and baby sister, Jin's life by alerting Star Fleet medical when her mother collapsed with heavy bleeding in the final stages of her pregnancy. She continues to feel proud of that moment to this day
Most Crucial Experience: On a rare occasion when her father was home, Jorderrek took Hana and Hiro out in a shuttle and her father allowed her to play with the controls. It was at that moment that she knew she wanted to fly starships and shuttles for a living
Role Model: Her role model is her father Jorderrek, despite not really knowing him until the age of 10
