Personal History

Maya’s early life consisted of playing in the rural areas around Lake Cataria. She always enjoyed the pursuit of languages and constantly talked to any offworlders who visited the region. The young Maya was enthralled with people and their stories, and with the guidance of her parents chose to pursue a life learning about other peoples and cultures.

At 17, Maya was accepted into Star Fleet Academy Tactical Command division. There, she found many of her classes challenging and fun at the same time. While she was at the Academy, Maya majored in Linguistics through the Tactical Command division of Star Fleet. Maya also picked up a major in Starship Organization, which at the time was a program offered through the Tactical Command division with a partnership with the Support division of Star Fleet. She chose to do this for a number of reasons, but chiefly, Maya wanted to make sure she left options open for herself, and with the dual degree, she knew that she would have a position for upward mobility since the number of needed linguists was minimal.

After graduation, Maya was assigned to the USS Wolfram, a small and outdated science vessel. Maya was assigned as a linguist to the ship, and she quickly made her way to Ensign. The then Ensign Redding, was transferred to the larger USS Gettysburg at the same time that then Lieutenant Hudson was transferred. The two struck a friendship at once, and after Bear was assigned Chief Tactical Officer, he moved Maya to a dual linguist and Specialist position with him on the Gettysburg. After they returned to home, Maya was reassigned to the Nova, much to her joy.

In the new position on the Nova, her role became much more administrative and much less tactical based. She found that she absolutely loved the more support-like role and absolutely thrived at the position.

When Bear was offered First Officer of the Philadelphia, Maya told Bear that she would be working under him on the new ship. With his new authority, Bear first tried to transfer Maya over as a member of tactical, but that proved ultimately impossible since the Philadelphia tactical department was full. However, there was a vacancy as the Chief of Support , the officer in charge of the support personnel on the ship and a shared assistant to the department heads. Once Maya was cleared, she started her new role as chief of support aboard the USS Philadelphia.
