Personal History

Childhood- Tobias spent his youth never really staying in one spot for long periods of time. This was mainly due to his father being a Vulcan merchant, which meant his only true home was the small ship his family owned and traveled in. Because of the constant moving around, Tobias never really had a chance to form any long lasting friendships but for a kid who didn’t know better, this didn’t bother him all too much. He had his fish to keep him company.

The only times that Tobias was at his happiest were the times his father would trade on Earth, his mother’s home-planet. While his father worked, his mother would take him down the waters in the gulf coast, an area she grew up in though her parents had passed away before Tobias was born. He loved being underwater and being able to go for a swim… it didn’t hurt that his last name was the Vulcan word for ‘to swim’.

Teenage years- When Tobias became a teenager, having spent most of his life out and about, his father decided it was time for the young Vulcan to learn more about the other half of his people. Though he put up a fight about it, Tobias was sent to live on Vulcan with his grandparents. The idea of being stuck in one place alone was enough to make him fume but what bothered him the most was he knew the Vulcan planet wasn’t known for having oceans or other large bodies of water.

Since his parents were off traveling from place to place, months would go by at a time without Tobias getting to see them again… with the exception of a video message every now and then. When he was 15 though, his grandparents pulled him aside one day and informed him that his parents had been killed in a freak accident as a malfunction somewhere in the old ship of theirs shutoff the life-support system. They weren’t able to restore the system in time as they passed away, only having enough time to send out a distress signal so their bodies would at least be found.

Over the next 3 years, Tobias stayed there on the Vulcan planet with the only family he had left but he never saw it as his home. It was during these years that his grandfather taught him how to control his emotions and what it meant to be even just part Vulcan. Once he turned 18 though, he had no qualms about leaving the dusty planet to join Star Fleet.

Adult years- The years that Mahal-Tor spent in the academy came and passed as the whole experience was pretty uneventful. When he wasn’t studying off on his own, the young cadet would spend all of his time off at the nearest beach and in the water. Even during the cold months, he could be found sitting on the beach wrapped in a towel after a quick dip.

Now a full Doctor, he served on a couple of ships during the next few years. Some would probably like to stay in one spot for a long period of time but Tobias didn’t mind the moves as he wasn’t one for making lasting friends even as an adult. His only attachments were his pet fish he brought along with him where ever he went.

Though he did move around, it was hard not to see that he did his job very well and worked hard every second he was on duty. The lack of having true friendships meant he could use that time for his studies, even into adulthood. Even though he was one of the best in his field, it did come at the cost at not having the best of social abilities.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Surgical Medicine, General Field Medicine.
Academy Minor(s): Xeno-biology, Marine Biology.
Hobbies and Pastimes: Taking care of his three fishes, swimming.
Short-Term Goals: Build a bigger aquarium for his pets.
Long-Term Goals: Currently undecided as things in life change all of the time.
Personality: Quiet and a bit reserved but can be vocal while working.
Sense of Humor: Tobias finds some things funny but overall, he does not have a big sense of humor. It’s hard to actually make him physically laugh.
Phobias: Being stuck in confined spaces for long periods of time.
Likes: Being under water, fish, and silence.
Dislikes: Loud noises, dogs, and candles.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: The sound of constant talking when there is work to be done.
Achievements: Graduating near the top of his class in the Academy.
Disappointments: Not graduating at the top of his class in the Academy.
Illnesses: None that he is aware of.
Strengths: Ability to focus solely on the tasks at hand.
Weaknesses: Socially awkward at times. He isn’t the most outgoing of people.
Fears: Tobias doesn’t have any fears that keep him up at night at the moment.
Prejudices: Though no one race stands out, his family had the most problems when it came to the Klingons so Tobias has a slight disdain for them.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Pair of loose tan slacks and a slightly baggy long sleeve shirt.
Distinguishing Features: Slightly pointed ears and eyebrows.
Pets: Two fan tail gold fish (Yon and Le-Suma) and a Chinese algae eater (Yokul).
Friends: None.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Learning of his parent’s death. He had spent most of his life always with them and around them. For them to be lost in such a small and meaningless way, it brought great sadness to him.
Best Time: One time while swimming in the ocean just off the beach, Tobias got caught in a current and pulled under water for a couple of minutes as it pushed him further away into the ocean. Though this would be scary to most, he felt oddly at peace and calm as felt like it was his way of letting going of any sense of control. Tobias was able to get to the surface and then swim himself out of the current and back to the beach.
Most Crucial Experience: For Tobias, it was a combination of his parents dying and his experience being swept out into the ocean.
Role Model: Tobias doesn’t have really one role model in particular as his mother helped show him what it was like to be human while his grandfather and father show what it was like to be Vulcan.
