M’Tashar was a university librarian. Now, she spends her time volunteering with local libraries and programs for the preservation of historic documents and artifacts. She also spends time in the holodeck learning to sail. K’Niia was a local merchant turned minor city official. Due to his position, he worked with a variety of individuals from different species and from different locations around the galaxy. This exposure, paired with the multicultural nature of Macadarna, played a heavy role in M’noa’s decision to join Starfleet. Now, K’Niia spends his time watching old holonovelas and learning how to knit. He has also started painting scenery for the local school’s theatric productions so he can spend more time with his son. Additionally, both M’Tashar and K’Niia spend a large portion of their time acting as doting grandparents and absolutely spoiling their grandchildren.
Siblings:
M’noa’s littermates are M’byss and K’Tora. As littermates, they share a birthday and age. However, their lives took them in different paths. M’byss also left Macadarna to work on the Caitian homeworld, Ferasa (Cait in Federation Standard). She works as a protector of the peace (police officer) and volunteer firefighter. K’Tora was the only child to remain on Macadarna. He works as an elementary school teacher and runs the children’s theater program at the school. He also has a successful side business selling beaded artwork and jewelry. M’noa has several of his pieces on display in her room. K’Tora and his wife M’Nera (a tailor) adopted a set of twin girls (7 year olds), K’pru and K’ren after their parents passed away in an accident. M’noa adores her nieces and always tries to find them fun gifts during shore leaves.

Personal History

Some may describe M’noa’s childhood as idyllic, but for M’noa it simply was her childhood and she experienced all the ups and downs associated with growing up. Her early childhood is marked by days spent running and giggling through wide open fields, falling down and looking at the sky looking for shapes in the clouds. Playing tag and always being so close to catching her sister and yet never managing it unless M’byss was distracted. Making flower crowns. Sneaking out to look at the stars, trying to find patterns in the shining lights, before finding out that people had already found these patterns and called them constellations and that these constellations had stories attached and varied from culture to culture. Then spending a summer ravenously reading every book she could get her hands on about constellation stories from various cultures.

In their adventures, M’byss always found the role of protector and K’Tora the kind and gentle comforter, while M’noa’s curiosity lead them onward. If they ever encountered bullies, M’byss would deal with them. If anyone ever scraped a knee or feelings ran high, K’Tora was there with a smile and a hug to make things better. The trio were never at a loss for things to do, or discover, or explore, with M’noa leading the way. While they played with other children, they didn’t need them, and more often than not spent their days alone together. These are some of M’noa’s favorite memories and the inspiration for many inside jokes between the siblings.

Once deemed old enough to travel, M’noa’s childhood was also highlighted by childhood trips to the Caitian homeworld, Ferasa (Cait). Every other summer, M’noa’s parents took their family to Ferasa to learn about and experience their culture and history, just as their parents had done for them. It was on these trips that M’byss fell in love with Ferasa, leading her to eventually move there. M’noa’s experience on these trips was different than that of her sister’s. While she enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about her culture, she missed the diversity of Ferasa. Furthermore, learning about her culture helped to increase her interest in learning about other cultures. K’Tora, on the other hand, loved the trips to Ferasa, but realized Macadarna was his favorite place to be. He and his wife have continued this tradition of journeying to Ferasa with their daughters.

Soon the trio grew older and gained more responsibility. No longer were summers entirely carefree. To learn responsibility and prepare for their futures, M’noa’s parents required her and her siblings to find summer jobs. M’noa worked at the library with her mother, planning different learning and outreach events for the community, leading children’s story and craft times, and, yes, shelving books. Her favorite parts of the job was when she was able to help plan cultural learning events for the communities, spending time with her mother, and the quiet days where she could sneak away and read. K’Tora worked as a babysitter and summer camp counselor. He discovered he loved working with children and on his free days he would help lead children’s story and craft times at the library. M’byss worked as lifeguard. However, most of her summer was spent training for and competing in various sports competitions. In fact, it was over the course of these summers that the siblings started to diverge. While still close, they began to do more and more things independently. This was especially true of M’byss, whose competitions and training kept her busy and away from home. K’Tora found a mentor in an old man from their neighborhood, an Aurelian named Perchik Deeta, who was a glass-blower and a stonemason. He taught him about the intricacies of design and the importance of art. He took pleasure in teaching K’Tora the basics of glass-blowing. K’Tora often makes his own beads to use in his jewelry and artwork. M’noa occasionally tagged along to these lessons but never came close to mastering the skill. However, her interactions with Mr. Deeta always made her wonder what it would be like to fly. M’noa also had her own solo adventures over the summers. She loved walking through the different communities on Macadarna, hearing the tones of other languages and learning about their cultures. She started studying languages in her free time. One of the first, in honor of Mr. Deeta, was Aurelian.

As the siblings entered secondary school, their paths continued to diverge as they were allowed to select some of their own classes and electives. M’byss continued to gravitate towards sports, while K’Tora was enchanted by the theater. M’noa initially filled her electives with language classes. However, after taking a required programming class and absolutely loving it, computer classes took up a portion of her electives as well. Through these classes, she discovered her ability and interest in finding patterns. Even though they didn’t share as many classes, the trio always made sure to share lunch at least once or twice a week. For the most part, the trio supported each other’s interests but not did not partake in them. K’Tora and M’noa would watch M’byss many sporting competitions, but were never athletes themselves. M’byss and M’noa attended K’Tora’s theatrical performances as audience members, not cast members. K’Tora and M’byss would listen to M’noa explain things about culture and languages (spoken or programming). One notable exception occurred during their senior year. K’Tora was directing a short play for the school’s senior showcase and needed help with the costuming, particularly the creation of flower crowns for the cast. Knowing his sister’s skill with and love of flower crowns, K’Tora asked for her help. M’noa couldn’t say no to helping her brother—or to the cute sound and lighting technician, another senior named Abigail. M’noa ended up spending extra time helping with the production and stuttering whenever she tried talking to Abigail, much to the amusement of her brother. However, her stuttering paid off one day when Abigail asked her out on a date. This started a whirlwind romance spanning the course of the rest of their senior year and into the summer. When not in class or working on homework (and even then, sometimes), M’noa’s mind was consumed with thoughts of Abigail and Starfleet.

Sooner than expected, or at least it seemed so for M’noa, their initial schooling on Macadarna was completed. Those final summer months were bittersweet. She loved her family and her girlfriend and yet she was moving away. She did her best to continue to create great memories, but she was sad and worried about leaving them. All too soon, the summer ended and the time to part with her family was at hand. The end of the summer also marked the end of her first relationship. Though Abigail cared greatly for M’noa (and perhaps because she cared so), she realized that their paths were diverging and they wanted different things in life; Abigail ended their relationship. This was difficult for M’noa to understand at the time. Today, she realizes the wisdom. Abigail wanted ready to settle down and start a family. This was not M’noa’s desire. These mismatching dreams would have soured their relationship. M’noa and Abigail are still friends; in fact, M’noa quite possibly cheered louder than anyone else at Abigail’s wedding to Liana.

M’noa entered the academy determined, but missing her family and fresh out of a relationship. The first weeks were incredibly hard. It was the first time she had been away from her family for more than a few days. At first, she spent all her time holo-calling her siblings and parents, as new recruits often do. However, she was immersed in the academy life. She loved her classes and she was thriving in the new environment. She joined the cultural club, attended diplomat’s speeches, and started a flower crown club. She occasionally dated. She gained a couple of mentors along the way, including the Aurelian diplomat and her computer programming teacher. Their guidance inspired her to join a mentoring program as well, outside of the academy, working with secondary school students. During her time at the academy, her family changed and grew. Her brother got married. Her sister moved to Ferasa. And at the end of her third year, her brother and his wife adopted two little girls. M’noa fell in love with her amazing nieces, K’pru and K’ren. She visits them whenever she can and always tries to teach her nieces to make flower crowns. However, they are far more interested in sports than crafts, to M’byss’s delight, who watches every recording of their games and is ready to give them feedback on their form and plays any time they ask.

Off Duty Clothing Tastes: She prefers to wear light, flowy sundresses when off-duty. Due to her fur, she doesn’t need to wear multiple layers of clothing to be at a comfortable temperature. Also, wearing (shorter) dresses means that her clothes don’t need to be altered for her tail. Plus, she thinks they are cute and fun. Sometimes, in the privacy of her own quarters, she will spin and twirl to see her sundresses flair out as she does so.
Distinguishing Features: She always wears a special necklace designed by her brother. It was one of his first creations, actually—or at least one of the first creations he felt confident enough to give to someone else. The pendant contains elements which represent all members of her family. Wearing it helps her to feel closer to her brother and her family in general.
Pets: None
Friends: M’noa’s best friends are undoubtedly her siblings. She is slightly closer to her brother than her sister but would never admit it. Outside of her family, she had friends, but she wasn’t extremely close to any of them. Her closest friend outside of her family was Evoline Tess, a Bajoran girl in their neighborhood. Evoline is currently studying to become a doctor, a time-consuming process on a planet with such a diverse array of species. She is also close with her ex-girlfriend, Abigail.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: M’noa’s most painful experience was seeing her brother break down after the death of Mr. Deeta. Her brother was always the one who comforted, not the one who needed comforting. This was a paradigm shift, and her heart broke for his.
Best Time: M’noa’s best memory was showing her nieces, K’pru and K’ren, the amazing hidden waterfall and cave she found with her siblings and seeing the joy on their faces.
Most Crucial Experience: Her most crucial experience was learning that different cultures had different constellations and stories behind the patterns they found in the sky. This sparked in her an interest in different cultures, which lead to an interest in languages, and eventually led her to Starfleet.
Role Model: M’noa’s role models are her parents. She has always admired their passion for their work, and for each other. They loved their jobs, and even after retirement, couldn’t leave them completely behind. M’noa wants that for herself. She wants a job that she loves (which she hopes she has found in Starfleet) and she wants to have a strong, stable relationship. She also appreciates how her parents always encouraged and supported her and tries to do the same for her nieces.
