Personal History

Lois was born in the city of Ai to Jolleph and Lucinda Lim, Agricultural scientists. Ai is an important agricultural center of the planet Trill. She is described by her parents as a quiet and studious child. She was average in school and worked hard to improve her grades.

As a teenager, she had little interest in males. She had wanted to be a joined Trill, but the rigors of the selection process scared her off. One of her main activities was as a volunteer at her local hospital. This experience gave her a love of all things medical. She wanted to be a nurse, and began the studies but her sour relationship with her parents made this difficult. Jolleph, her father, expected greater things from his firstborn and he was openly disappointed that she was not a son. When her brother was born, Jolleph gave most of his time to his son Larry and ignored Lois and her sister Lenna. She began to slowly realize that to do well she needed to move away from her parents, particularly her father Jolleph.

By the age of 18, she completed her basic nurse training and was openly rebellious to her parents. Seeking to further distance herself from her father she applied to join Starfleet but failed the entrance exam. This made her even more determined. Two years later she passed the entrance exam and entered the Star Fleet Academy in 2406. That year, the Federation President was murdered by the Changeling Kwalin, during an attempted assassination of the entire Federation Council.

In this new environment, she excelled in everything she did… well nearly everything. She set course to become a doctor and nothing was going to stop her, even a crash landing in a shuttle on her first solo flight. The cause of the crash was pilot error.

She moved through the exhausting Academy schedule uneasily. She was already surly, and now developed a very independent ‘didn’t suffer fools gladly’ reputation and a polite but grumpy bedside manner.

Graduating fifth in a class of twenty-five, she now had the initials MD after her name and was assigned as a junior officer to the USS Democracy. Lois Lim served well on this ship and was sad to leave for her next assignment. She nearly decided to stay aboard with her one and only true friend Jan Joplin, who often entertained the crew singing the blues.

Lois reached her second assignment as the Krynar situation was blossoming. It was a dangerous time for the Federation and for Star Fleet officers and crew. When told of the fate of Bajor, she could not believe that the USS Democracy was lost upon entering the Bajor system to investigate the destruction of the planet. Vice Admiral Shields and all hands were lost. She was devastated at the loss of her friend Ens Joplin.

Lois’s new ship, the USS Endeavor, was a small survey vessel with 221 crew. It was kept away from the Krynar war because of its vulnerability.

Lois was overlooked for promotion on two occasions partly because of her personality. Her one joy was discovering that her friend Ens Jan Joplin was not on the Democracy when it was destroyed. They began a lifelong friendship, corresponding regularly and meeting up at every opportunity.

In 2416, Lois transferred to the USS Intrepid, still a junior medical officer. She made Lieutenant Junior Grade whist on the Intrepid and made a contribution to holographic medical procedures during that time. She sometimes quotes the opinion of the crew about her, a joke the crew would often mention in her presence, “there are only two memorable occasions on the Intrepid, one when Ambassador T’Loko was kidnapped and the other when tensions arose with the Cardassian Union somewhat due to the actions of the USS Intrepid, all because of Lois Lim’s bedside manner!” She now wears this as a verbal badge of honor.

Lois took an extended leave from the Intrepid and Star Fleet in 2420, to go home to Trill and visit her family for the first time in fourteen years. She was not received well. “How could you stay away so long and not contact us, not even once?” She didn’t stay long. Her parents’ attitude towards their eldest daughter was the very reason she didn’t visit and why she left early this time. Lois left and joined a nine-month tour to an out-of-the-way planet called Cubia, as a volunteer doctor with “Doctors Know No Borders”, assisting with a devastating pandemic.

When Lois returned to active duty, she was still surly. Determined to look for new opportunities to further her career, Lois applied for the Chief Medical Officer’s position on the newest ship in the fleet, the USS Titania, and to her surprise she was accepted.

'What Fools These Mortals Be'
Her first mission on the latest ship in the fleet USS Titania didn’t start well when she clashed with the First Officer and his expectations of a Chief Medical Officer. Lois’s relationship with the FO didn’t improve for most of the mission.

The mission was diplomatic, twin planets in the Busant System looking to join the Federation and cement peace between them with Double Royal Wedding.

The two couples disappeared without a trace before they married, and all hell was about to break loose. Lim was arrested because she was the last person who spoke to one of the brides, Lady Herma. Released soon after, she took it upon herself to talk to locals at the wedding to find some clues. Other crew members investigated scientifically. Both came to the same concussion that the couples were somewhere in a forbidden forest area where the locals would not venture.

Investigating the forbidden forest with two search parties going in different directions, Lim again took the initiative by asking the locals and the FO’s search party found the couples. They also encountered Robin, a superbeing like a Q. That didn’t go down well for the FO who was struck down by Robin with information overload into his brain causing him to have a life-threatening fit. Fortunately, the crew were evacuated and the FO was treated, but his recovery would be long. Lim began to give him the benefit of the doubt, but the FO left the ship on medical leave before she could say good-bye. She was awarded a Star Fleet Commendation Medal and formally promoted to full Lieutenant.

2403 At the beginning of the second USS Titania mission Lois was promoted to LCdr by Captain Fields USS Titania, assigned to patrol the Romulan boarder, found the Black Rose, adrift, the crew dead with organs missing, removed when they were alive. Lim’s investigations found that there were similar attacks reported. After tracking a ships’ warp trail to a non-Federation asteroid and ‘the Bazaar’, LCdr Lim was part of an undercover operation led by Captain Fields. Information gained led them into a trap and a stand-off. Cdr Ameen, negotiated with a woman named Amila, their leader, whose group were purchasing specific human body parts. He explained that we were Federation Officers and could supply cloned organs for free. A Freight Captain, suspected to be involved, immediately stepped in pulling a disrupter on Amila who froze in shock. Captain Fields wasted no time and fired, heavily stunning the Freighter Captain. He, needing immediate surgery, was taken to Titania were Dr. Lim and her medial team saved his life. Amila’s home world situation encouraged the captain to arrange for Federation medical assistance. The Freighter Captain was arrested and taken for trial. After this mission Dr. Lim transferred to the USS Geronimo. Her long journey gave her time to meet her parents, old grievances soon flared causing Lois to say things she felt but kept hidden for a long time. She left, telling her father that she loved him, but vowed privately never to visit him again.

USS Geronimo

Dr Lim’s first and what would eventually be her only mission with the Geronimo began with an out of the way colony of technophobes, called Graves-world. The inhabitants called themselves Wilsoner’s after the captain who brought them to the planet. Dr Enders had contacted Star Fleet with a medical emergency. The USS Charon had visited first but was called away. With little information from the Charon logs, Dr Lim quickly established that the colonists were suffering from lead poisoning and so a search for the source of the lead poisoning began whilst Dr Lim treated the victims of the poisoning.

Treatment began with inoculations and then a method suggested by one of the engineers to filter the sick by cycling them through the ships transporter system was initiated. Hours later all the colonists were free of the lead in their bodies. Meanwhile the First Officer with a team searched the water delivery and filtration system for the source of the lead poisoning. It was found and repaired. This led them to a hermit’s shake where an elderly lady lived, who asked for transport off the colony because of the lack of technology. She was brought to the colony’s clinic and was recognised by Dr Enders as the Captain Wilson who brought the Wilsoner’s to the colony. She eventually admitted she poisoned the water in the hope that help would come and take her away. She was arrested and confined to the Geronimo brig for the trip home to face trial. On the trip home all the crew were advised that they would be transferred to other ships. Dr Lim would be the CMO of the USS Aquila.

As a medical doctor, when she has a patient with a problem, she is like a ‘dog with a bone,' she does not give up until the problem is solved or the patient dies. When off duty, with an alcoholic drink in hand she relaxes and becomes a pleasant amicable person but her blunt nature is never far away. She expects nothing less of others than she expects of herself.

Off Duty Clothing Tastes: usually dark slimming top and pants
Distinguishing Features: surly expression
