LCARS

Library Computer Access and Retrieval System (also called LCARS or library computer) is the control interface used by Star Fleet for accessing the main computer systems on board Federation starships. LCARS uses sophisticated artificial intelligence routines to understand and execute voice commands, as well as touch screen interfaces for keypad commands.

LCARS is able to interface with various Star Fleet technology and tools, such as PADDs, tricorders, and control panels. The touch screen is quite versatile, as it can quickly reconfigure it’s display to suit the user’s task and can even become a tactile interface for the visually impaired.
