Personal History

Leila began her life in Poland, her mother wanted to be with her own mother when she gave birth. However, several months after her birth Leila’s father received work with a research team based in North America so the family moved there and lived for several years. During that time Leila was an unremarkable child and was mediocre during school and activities at home. It wasn’t until the family moved to South Africa that Leila showed any real promise as a student. The local surroundings relaxed Leila far more than the urban chaos of America and she found it easier to concentrate on her schoolwork.

Once again, after Leila’s tenth birthday the family moved to North America once again, but this time finding it much easier to concentrate with the help of holodecks and the parkland around where she lived. The family was to stay there for the rest of Leila’s stay on Earth and began to excel in school as did most Starfleet officers. Leila’s interest in engineering came during those years as she became fascinated by how things worked, how they were put together and how they were taken apart. Beginning with the computer systems in her apartment, something her parents weren’t particular pleased with.

Upon graduating, not the top of her class but fairly high up, Leila knew what she wanted to do. Apply for Starfleet academy. Her parents were proud of her career choice and encouraged her to work for that goal. She spent most of her time from there studying for the entrance exam, which, when the time came, she passed by the skin of her teeth.

During her time at Starfleet academy Leila made many friends, most of whom she is still in regular contact with and made a reputation of being a night owl. Not because she was up studying all night but for the fact she threw so many parties in her dorm. Having been reprimanded many times for doing it instructors almost came to the hard decision of expulsion from the academy but her own instructors stood up for her citing that the parties increased moral and helped the students relax and even though a few grades slipped, that was mostly due to a students own neglect, grades in Leila’s year were at an all time high. Certain of a link Leila was allowed to stay on the condition of one party a month and only one during exam times.

Leila graduated the Academy with friends amongst all facets of academy life and decided that’s where she wanted to be, to be teaching people as she had been taught and maybe throw a few parties while she was at it. But for that she needed experience aboard a ship and so with not much of a choice she chose the Gettysburg to live out her life of learning.

From here she went to the Nova after getting experience in ship construction on the Nova herself. This ticked off another box and now all that was needed was and advanced equivalent degree in theoretical warp mechanics and as fate would have it one of Starfleet’s lead researchers in the field happened to be working aboard the ship and had stood down as CEO to spend more time with his family giving Leila a unique opportunity to learn from an expert in the field.
