Physiology

The Lagardios are a reptilian species, evolved from lizards the same way Humans evolved from apes. In fact, the Lagardios appear to share many traits of lizards native to Earth, though the most common variety are in the forms of Water Dragons and Iguanas. Tests would show that those traits are just a coincidental similarity, and that the Lagardios aren't related to the Earth's lizards.

Being lizards, the Lagardios females lay eggs when giving birth. Because when the infant is hatched it has already grown teeth, and developed its digestive system to the point where it can eat solid foods, breast feeding is an alien concept to the Lagardios. Since breast feeding isn't a requirement, female Lagardios do not have breasts. This makes it harder for non-Lagardios to tell the difference between the male and the female, but the differences are there. For example, they have differently developed muscles and build.

Note: Despite their physical similarities to the Gorn, the two species are not related. It's similar to how the Humans and Vulcans look alike. Same basic appearance, but their different attitudes are polar opposites.

Society

In the Lagardios society, though they practice equal rights for all, analysis has shown that the females are the dominant sex of the species. Families usually tattoo their symbol onto their offspring. The symbol is usually a creature native to Soran II, though after they achieved space travel, some families have been known to use some of the creatures encountered on other planets.

Planet of Origin

Soran II is a hot, humid planet, perfectly suited for the race of bipedal lizards who inhabit it. The Lagardios avoid the polar ice caps like the plague, since, being cold blooded, it takes far less for them to get hypothermia then any warm blooded mammal. This also makes them ill suited for work on the exterior of a starship.

History

Their early history could be compared to that of humanities. Racial discrimination happened between the different 'breeds', similar to the way humanity discriminated fellow man because of skin colour. Regrettably, it was because of this discrimination that several breeds were killed off, along with them a breed who's closest Earth cousin would be the chameleon. By the end of the numerous civil wars, the two dominant breeds were the 'Water Dragon' and 'Iguana'.

The modern Lagardios is vastly different in comparison. The Lagardios of the present are far less violent, they aren't pacifists, and when push comes to shove, they are more then capable of defending themselves. However, violence is only an option if all other options have been tried and failed; a last resort.

The Lagardios achieved warp travel a century prior to humanity, but never fully utilized space travel except to colonize the only two other planets in their solar system that were habitable by Lagardios standards.

The Lagardios joined the United Federation of Planets as a means of expanding their horizons, to be a part of something greater. The Federation's morals were noble, and its cause just, something that they were proud to be a part of.

After the Borg Invasion, the Lagardios considered resigning the UFP, because of the way that the Federation left most worlds, including Soran II, to defend the Core Worlds, but in the end decided against it; if for no other reason then that they weren't one of the worlds that was devastated by the Borg.

Thank you to J. Logan (Kyolin, Jaxx) for the species profile of the Lagardios.
