Lactra VIII

Lactra VII is an inhabited M-class planet in the Alpha Quadrant. It is home to the Lactrans, a highly advanced non-humanoid and telepathic species. It has two moons.

The natives of this planet call it Sessaline.

The planet has at least one major city, which visiting Starfleet officers considered a feat due to the non-humanoid structure of its people. Inside and surrounding the city was a zoo, which houses a variety of lifeforms from other planets. The habitats for these lifeforms were accommodated due to terraforming of certain areas. The water, whether natural or manufactured, is clear and drinkable, though it was scientifically noted to be "too pure."

The Lactran people have a history spanning back more then tens of thousands of their own centuries, though it is unknown what the Federation equivalent is to one Lactran year.

In 2269, the Starfleet survey/science vessel USS Ariel explored the planet, though the crew later were abducted during their mission. The USS Enterprise was sent after them, discovering that three of the crew had been killed, the rest imprisoned in the Lactran zoo. After some time, communication was established, and the Starfleet citizens were rescued.
