Personal History

Ariana was born on DS8, where her parents worked a multi-cultural restaurant. She lived there all her life, never having visited Earth until she joined the Academy. She took her other schooling on DS8. Her brother died when she was 15. This devastated her, but she has found that other events in her life diminish her grief somewhat. Lacey joined the Federation because she was always interested in Science, and thought joining was the most exciting way to pursue a career. She is a pretty closed person, who has a natural gift of leadership, though she doesn't like being in a position of authority.

Ariana started her career on the USS Dauntless. She served during the end of the Romulan war and throughout the Borg war. Except for these two significant conflicts, her time as a junior officer was mostly uneventful.

Things started happening in Ariana's life when she joined the crew of the Copernicus as CSO. Most notably is when she agreed to become the surrogate mother of Kasia, the unborn daughter of Avark, and Susan Caffery. Susan was shot by a renegade Cardassian, and she died along with her unborn male child. The other twin, a female, somehow survived, and was transferred to stasis. Ariana was found to be the closest genetic match to ensure a successful birth of the child. Of course, she agreed to carry the baby, and so was impregnated. During her pregnancy, she started to become closer to the baby's father, Avark, and developed feelings for him. This didn't change even as he was killed and somehow revived, but with intense memory loss.

Though Avark was kept from seeing Ari and the other crewmates for a long time, they eventually met up again, and he was present during the birth of his daughter. Ari noticed the change in Avark's personality, for he seemed softer and more controlled, and this only served to increase her feelings for him.

Shortly afte this, Ariana agreed to go on shore leave with Avark, using the excuse that he deserved to be with his daughter, and Ari didn't want to leave Kasia. It was just before they left on this trip that they recognized their love for each other, and became more deeply involved. Avark proposed to her on a visit to Vulcan as they watched a volcano erupt for the first time in 80 years.

During their next mission, Avark died unexpectedly on Stardate 20504.12 due to an overload in the positronic implants that were keeping him alive. Shortly after, Ariana found out she was pregnant again. The next two months were a troubling time for her, as she struggled with the loss of Avark as well as the joy of a new child. One day, though, Avark showed up, as a hologram. He had been kept alive in the positronic implants and then in the computer. It was hard for Ariana to accept him as a hologram, but they made significant progress in getting their relationship back to where it was. Holographic Avark, who had been transported back in time over 800 years and survived to that day, began losing his memory. He steadily forgot things from his distant past to closer and closer to his current time. Ari feared that he would eventually forget her.

Complicating things even more was the arrival of Cadet avarQ. This younger version of Avark was brought through time by the Botticellians, the race that holographic Avark was investigating as part of their mission. He was brought to the Copernicus, and seemed to be collecting memories from his future-holographic Avark's past. He eventually caught up with the current timeline, which complicated things for Ariana as she had two Avark's around, and she loved them both. All three of them were sent on a away mission where Iconian technology integrated the two Avark’s into Cadet Avark’s body.

Upon returning to base for shoreleave, Avark and Ariana got married. Avark seemed mostly normal, though there were a few times where Ari noticed something different about him. This eventually got worse and worse, until Avark found out his parents had been captured by the Klingon emperor, Kalok, who was also his uncle. Avark ended up stealing a shuttle from the Copernicus to go and save them. Ari had been monitoring his movements out of concern, and stowed away on the shuttle to go with him. Avark was angry, but ended up using her for his plans. In order to get to his parents, he had to ditch the Star Fleet shuttle and find alternate transportation. They ended up on an Orion station near the Klingon border where Ari posed as Avark’s slave. They met up with Chris Wylie, one of their best friends, who was going to help them.

In a surprise move, Avark sold Ari as a slave to a Betazoid female posing as a Cardassian male. At first she justified it to herself, considering she had a tracking implant so they could save her. However, before they could rescue her she was mind raped by the Betazoid, who took her memories of her intimate times with Avark and replaced him with her own, fake Cardassian visage.

After this, Ari was rescued by Narret Rayne, her former First Officer on the Dauntless. They met up with Wylie, and were all rescued by Avark as the station blew up around them. On the transport they obtained, Avark found out that he was the son of Kalok, the Klingon emperor.

They ended up on the Titan, where Avark presented false orders to Captain Daher. They invaded Klingon space where they attacked a Klingon task force in order to rescue Avark’s parents. Avark’s mother and his half brother, Krava, were killed, but they managed to rescue Garran, the man that raised Avark. It was then that Avark started to show true signs of insanity. He killed his best friend, Chris Wylie, in cold blood. He escaped the Titan.

The Titan tracked him to Tharos III, where they found he had taken over the planet, killing many thousands of the inhabitants and terrorizing the rest to follow him. The met up with the USS Philadelphia, under the command of Commander Vinzz, who was another friend of Avark and Ariana. An away team was sent down to the surface to capture Avark. Ariana transferred to the Philadelphia and could do nothing but wait until they brought her husband back. By this time, she knew Avark wasn’t the man she had fallen in love with. Her husband had gone insane. She had hope they could bring him back to himself, but it was mostly hopeless.

Avark was brought to the Philadephia under maximum security. They were all transported to Starbase Alpha, where Avark was to await trial. JAG tried to implicate Ariana as an accomplice, but offered her a deal to testify against her husband. She agreed, justifying it as she couldn’t leave her children without a father and a mother. It ended up that Ari never had to testify and all charges were dropped. This was because on his way to his pre-trial hearing, Avark was killed by an assassin who stabbed him multiple times.

Ariana took an extended leave of absence and went to Betazed, where her children were staying with her brother and parents. She was there for a year, where multiple counselors tried to help her heal. It was of no use, though. Ari hates counselors and the events of her life were just too scarring. She withdrew into herself and became deeply depressed.

At the end of the year she decided she couldn’t take it anymore. She needed to go back to work. She returned to Star Fleet and was demoted from Commander to the rank of Lieutenant because of her absence and the AWOL charges against her. She was assigned as a junior science officer to the USS Gettysburg.

Ariana had an easy time fitting in with the crew of the Gettysburg. She made friends with the Commanding Officer, Derrick Grant, to the point where her children look up to him as an uncle. She also befriended Chris Eaglestone, the Chief Engineer, and they started to date.

It was when they had their first intimate moment that Ari's psychological scars showed up. The mental damage the Betazoid Iridia had inflicted on her during the mental rape made it so that she couldn't be intimate with Chris without flashbacks. Luckily, there was a strong Ullian telepath on board by the name of Noruas Maniemara who offered to help her.

By inducing a lucid dream state, Noruas was able to access Ariana's mind and remove the damage caused. The dream manifested itself as a ancient Greek myth that Ari had studied in school. She played the character of Atalanta, though her subconscious adjusted the myth to better fit her situation. It was a fascinating dream, and as a result Ari was healed from her mental rape.

Her relationship with Chris was able to progress and they are still together today. (Note: This is hopelessly outdated.)
