Personal History
Samira was born to a tribe of Bedouins in the Middle East, nomadic tribes who wander the deserts, wandering with their families and herds to the point that tent cities often emerge around the remaining wildernesses of Earth. Even amidst the times of the Federation and Starfleet, there are still Bedouin tribes all for the sake of keeping their heritages alive. Living is still improved, although the Bedouins remain indifferent of too much modern technology. While Samira had a good childhood and good enough relationship with her parents, much thoughts came to her, much to their disapproval. If Samira could say she had a city of birthplace, the particular city she’d say is Mecca, because was born in Mecca before her parents embarked for a Hajj, a pilgrimage that Muslims would make at some point at their lives.
Samira was always curious of worlds outside her tribe, let alone off-planet. She often saw starships and space stations in Earth orbit in the night sky, which inspired her interest. When she was old enough, she snuck away to join civilization, more out of her natural curiosity as a child, and in that her tribe never approved of the technology and the wider world, grounded as they were. She at first assisted law enforcement when she was involved in an incident and helped things out, and she learned a great deal among the policemen, forensics catching her interest the most, and she was a brilliant child who was eager and quick to learn.
Forensics always caught Samira’s interest the most, given her love for puzzles in her childhood pastime. She was always wanting to know how things worked and what chain of events made things happen, and that is where she applied science, which proved useful later on. Her curiosity of the stars didn’t keep her among grounded locales for long, prompting a decision to join Starfleet Academy, in regard to her curiosity to see new places past Earth, although she does set aside her pieces of technology when alone.
Curious as she was, she was hesitant about space travel in late childhood, but once she was old enough, she plucked up her courage to make her application. She got to know technology, but doesn’t want to be too attached. Nonetheless, she accepts the technology and understands the use for it. She was especially fascinated by the speeds wrought by impulse thrusters and warp drives, but her time among law enforcement brought about a talent that took her interests in a different field.
Samira, or Sam if she prefers, knew combat from defending flocks of livestock, primarily camels in regard to her own tribe. Her tribe, like all other Bedouins in the days of the Federation, have accepted a bit of technology to an extent, specifically medicines and better means of preventing disease and flourishing lives, which essentially meant lots of herds of livestock. In the case of Samira’s tribe, it meant camels. Modern Federation medicine meant so many camels to breed quickly and easily, along with ensuring disease prevention and proper sanitation. So many camels unfortunately tended to draw the attention of predators and thieves, prompting livestock defense, of which Samira was a part.
Samira’s father is one of the leaders in her tribe and is responsible for coordinating with moving the livestock herds for moving when their camps pack up and move out from one place to another. As such, Samira learned a great deal in caring for animals, and also became medically observant when it came to helping to treat animals. Among the outside world, she worked in Forensics in learning the ropes in law enforcement, but it didn’t make her fully into being a full medical expert. Learning Forensics also comes with combat training especially necessary for self-defense. Samira took part a great deal in helping the local law enforcement, given crimes often happened a great deal, and in defending flocks from thieves in the past, she had expertise in executing justice in a way.
Samira knew that stopping bad guys meant understanding what they do and how to stop them before they hurt people, something she had experience with when she was younger in defending herds from predators and thieves. Understanding people and science solved crimes, as her time with law enforcement taught her. Science had answers about the technology that had been hidden from her for so long, and at the same time helping to understand how and why a person died, then being able to put that in terms that gave a family closure, helping to identify what happened and who, or what, caused it, to make a connection of the dots. It was true that some technology was very dangerous, but other kinds of technology were beneficial and helpful. It was where Samira had to learn more about science to do all of those things, to connect the dots, to solve the puzzles.
Samira felt exhilaration when she first went into orbit and saw the planet from below. While she had the concern about depressurization, when she learned about how excellently modern Starfleet technology held the craft together, those fears were put to rest once and for all. By the time had reached the rank of Lieutenant, she had seen many planets and realized she was more of a wanderer than any of her people, her friends, her family ever dreamed of being. From her graduation, she caught a ride here and there on supply runs, even made her own exploration when she was on leave. For the most part, she had served on the Starship Yorktown since graduation, enjoying being on a ship with semblance to a Constitution class despite its modern appearance. She took up a temporary post on Vanguard Station given a short-handedness situation in one of the Science sections, and was waiting for her next post where the warp speeds will take her.
While Samira leans toward more pragmatic views that wrought about differences between her and her family, she still remains faithful to her religious beliefs.
