Personal History

Kelshin was born on the Mirak orbital colony Oranth II to a pair of well-known Onca Mirak. His father Jeriq was a biomechanical engineer working on the genitronics and was known for the creation of bioengineered limbs that could be grown from a stump into a fully functional limb that functioned as well as the limbs that they were born with. Kelshin's mother, Rakal, was an Mirak doctor who alongside her mate, worked as a trauma surgeon in the annex of the Mirak Star League's intelligence division's infirmary on the colony. Kelshin grew up surrounded by experimental medical technology. Not a day went by that some aspect of medicine was discussed, and as a child, knew more about physiology and medicine than any other children in his colony. As he grew, it became clear that like his parents, Kelshin was destined to go into medicine. One time, during his childhood, he visited Oranth III for a medical conference that his parents were attending. They left Kelshin in the care of the rest of the family, but like many Mirak children, he snuck out of his family house one night just to hang out with his clan's children. As usual, someone got too rough and ended up breaking the arm of one of the other kids there. Kelshin was able to improvise a splint and get the child to a medical center while staving off blood loss from the open wound. Due to his quick thinking and improvising, the child survived. Kelshin was reprimanded in front of his family for disobeying the curfew, but commended for his basic medical skills. Skills that a child wouldn't be likely to have. Once the time for his trials of Ko'Rathivor came around, he was told to hunt for the most severely wounded person on the planet, and nurse them back to health. The task took over a month, but in the end, Kelshin used his knowledge of medicine to great effect. During his seventeenth year of life, he was offered a chance to attend the Oranth University of Science, Kelshin accepted the honor, as he was one of the few of his colony to gain such an offer, his father being one of them.

When he entered the OUS, he entered into the medical studies section, and managed to compete beside the best students that the OUS had accepted. After a few years and a lot of research, Kelshin finally graduated from the OUS with a degree in medicine and a degree in genitronics. After his graduation, he was offered a position in the Mirak Intelligence Service as a medical researcher. Eager to live up to family tradition, Kelshin accepted, but was unprepared for what he would be doing. The Mirak placed him in their genetic research labs, working on ways to create limbs of other species that could be made genetically compatible with Mirak operatives. His year of military service was fufilled with that task, but once it was over, Kelshin didn't want to return. Fearful of being recalled to duty, Kelshin fled to Federation space with the help of a few Mirak contacts in Star Fleet. When he arrived on Earth, he was debriefed and was taken to Starfleet Medical for his research. After a discussion with members of Starfleet Medical, he convinced Starfleet Medical that his expertise was better served by assisting the Federation, and so he was offered and accepted employment in advancing genitronic technology at Starfleet Medical. After a year at Starfleet Medical, Kelshin stayed on Earth with his fellow researchers beyond the period agreed upon by him with SFM, and proceeded to spend the next few months trying to figure out what to do with his life. He didn't want to spend his life the way his parents had done, and with his experiences with the MIS haunting him, it was difficult to get a job anywhere while not being a citizen. It was then, that his fellow researchers suggested he apply for the Star Fleet Academy, as they believed that his demeanour was better suited for life on a starship. The medical R&D lead for the genitronics unit at Starfleet Medical then sponsored him for the Star Fleet Academy based on his work with the SFM, allowing him to gain access to taking the test. In a month, Kelshin took the Academy Entrance exam on Earth and passed with flying colors.

After passing the exam, Kelshin left Starfleet Medical for the Star Fleet Academy. At the Academy, Kelshin's work in genitronics was encouraged, and he was surrounded by students who shared his love for medicine, but didn't care if he was a Mirak or not. However, Kelshin shied away from other Mirak at the Academy, not knowing if they worked for Mirak Intelligence or not. After a year, and assurances that the other Mirak weren't there to kill him, Kelshin opened up a bit more to them. During his final year at the academy, he managed to genitronically replicate a Caitian leg, and get it reattached to a same disabled Caitian veteran, and was able to ensure that the leg wouldn't be rejected by the patient's immune system, allowing him to claim that genitronics could be a success in the case of feline humanoids. It was a small step for him, but as he was close to graduating, he had to let others take over the research. He knew that he wouldn't likely see the complete success of genitronics, but at least his name was on the paper.
