Personal History

Kellan was born in the capital city of the Trill Homeworld to Moris and Remara. Like all Trill, Kellan hoped that he could be joined one day with a symbiont. A guardian visited their home when he was a teenager. The Symbiosis Commission had seen Kellan’s grades and suggested he join as an initiate when of age. This only drove Kellan to do better in his studies, as it was so competitive to be joined and a candidate could be rejected at any time.

Kellan was fascinated with computers and how they worked. He quickly specialized in programming. He got an internship with the Science Ministry maintaining their computer systems. This earned him a place in the joining ceremony at the age of twenty. After the ceremony, Kellan received an invitation to join Star Fleet Academy.

The now joined Trill continued his education in computers and dabbled a little bit in hologram programming. One of Vos’ previous hosts was a well known literary figure on Trill. The pair’s final project was a traditional holonovel from Trill’s library. Kellan Vos served on a few starbases updating the computers. He recently received transfer orders for the USS Columbia. The experimental ship of course had its few minor hiccups. One of the sensor parameters reprogrammed the console to display all information in an obscure dialect of Tellarite. Due to the memories from Mov Vos, Kellan was able to reboot the Standard language file from the main directory. The crew quickly made the acquaintance of an experimental artificial intelligence computer interface known as IKE. Kellan was one of the few who didn't see the program as an attempt to take over the ship. IKE lets him poke around its subroutines in exchange for matches in various games like tridimensional chess.

Kellan's first mission since graduation took him to the border planet of Gamma Doradus III. He experimented with a probe to make it project the image of an escort ship. It had a successful result, but the concept still has a long way to go. He also found himself as part of an advanced strike force to infiltrate the Star Fleet base converted by Romulan terrorists. His team was to go in and disable the defence grid while Captain Adaran led the main assault, and hopefully acquire the ultritium compound they were using for bombs. Despite being the senior most member of the advanced team, Kellan had no field experience whatsoever. It was also the first time he had witnessed death in combat. He now has a new look on life, now that he's no longer in the cushy core of the Federation doing system updates.

The next mission brought the Columbia to the planet of Yadalla Prime near the Neutral Zone. There was some unrest given the planet's affiliations with the Romulan Star Empire. Star Fleet had ordered the Columbia to pick up the staff and equipment from the listening station on the planet and transplant them to another planet. Nothing special was required of the Science department for this cookie cut transport mission; however, Vos found himself seeing obsolete tactics being used in new ways. The capital city of Yadalla Prime used an old multiplex scanning protocol to transmit a huge amount of data while searching for hidden vessels all at the same time. A similar rotating frequency jamming field also sent out from the planet left the ship blind for what seemed like an eternity. Vos has both of these events on the proverbial backburner for analysis until he can gather the proper computers. Both the Captain and the Romulan terrorists like to play with the ship's power systems (the Captain only did so for a drill, but it helped prepare them), so he'll look into ways to bring the computers back online faster. His ability to work well under the most seemingly random situations earned him a Star Fleet Achievement Medal.

Following the destruction of Bajor by a race now identified as the Inquisitors, the crew of the Columbia had been called out to Caratas IV. A team from Star Fleet Intelligence had gone missing along with any information they might have have gathered about this new threat to the Alpha Quadrant. The Columbia had been outfitted with a fully Federation made cloaking device despite the Treaty of Algeron. It worked perfectly during a field test next to a fellow Star Fleet vessel; however, Vos discovered the system was uncontrollably overheating not long after they arrived at Caratas IV. On top of that, hundreds of Inquisitors appeared and were somehow able to track the movements of the cloaked ship. Several of the shard vessels converged into the larger configuration and began ‘scanning’ the planet with a graviton based sonar technique. Faced with a cloaking device on the verge of failure and the impending threat of death by graviton pummels, Vos recommended they ride the wake of a graviton wave into the planet’s ionized atmosphere. He assumed the Inquisitors would be blinded by the atmosphere as well. The larger ships did follow them, but the planet’s natural topography provided better cover than empty space. When the Away Team was able to make they return trip back to the ship, they met in orbit and went to warp before the Inquisitors could do any more damage. Unfortunately, the data crystal was empty and they lost the Chief Tactical Officer during the assault.

As the Columbia was called to eliminate an Uiheviri depot beyond the Neutral Zone, sensors picked up on a distress signal from a Federation freighter. Vos relayed the signal via buoy without giving the Columbia's position away. He and the Away Team spacewalked to the freighter to keep their low profile in unfriendly territory. The freighter had turned out to be a decoy so Romulan vessels could attack the Columbia. Vos beamed back to the ship and helped repel the boarders. Although successful, he still sustained shrapnel trauma to his chest. Sickbay patched him up, and Star Fleet saw it fitting to award him an Achievement Medal for taking up arms instead of manning a computer station.

The Columbia was supposed to return to base after a mission involving a raid on a Uivhueri vessel at Outpost 19; however, the Krynar seizing Tellar Prime as a foothold in the Alpha Quadrant put a wrench in their plans. Not even reclaiming a founding member of the Federation gave the crew cause to celebrate. The senior staff was eventually summoned by Captain Morgan of the Quasar. It turned out that the Romulan Star Empire caught wind of the Columbia’s enhanced stealth capabilities and were none too happy about the discovery. The Empire also brought up several other charges against Captain Adaran directly. It was either s/he surrender hirself to Romulan custody or create an interstellar incident.

Adaran acquiesced and the Columbia was reduced to a skeleton crew. With a little encouragement from Captain Morgan, those officers remaining decided to disobey the current orders and attempt to extract Adaran from Romulan custody. Vos implemented a packet injection hack on the Dragon, one of the ships that tried to stop the Columbia, in order to force the vessel out of warp. That gave the Columbia the edge it needed to outrun her escort. The ship hadn’t been fully repaired yet and the dorsal sensor was riddled with blind spots. Vos was able to partially compensate for blind spots by stationing a probe on Deck A underneath the faulty area.

Eventually, the Columbia caught up with the shuttle that was bringing Captain Adaran to Hdrael 12. The crew was dead, and it appeared according to the memory files that the Captain was released by two Romulan newcomers and then killed the crew. The transport logs were available and showed the two Romulans as Merik Droall, the male, and Hloal Iawaain, the female. The male's name was not in the ship's computer. The female's, however, appeared in the ship's logs, in an entry by the Captain. She was a telepath, and the captain had reportedly killed her on Trianguli-A975, where s/he and Giraath had gone on a classified mission. No details were given about the woman or the mission.

Following hir trail, the Columbia was able to catch up with its captain. Vos and Ensign Banks from Engineering to perform a bone lock transport on Captain Adaran. Unfortunately, s/he had already locked out the vessel's computer system and planted an explosive on board. There was no time to prevent the vessel's collision course without exposing the Columbia’s illegal presence to the Romulans. The only thing they could do was make it back to Federation space before the shockwave hit.

It was unknown at first if the Captain was under any telepathic tinkering while s/he was in custody. Once s/he had been cleared medically, the Captain gave us the option to face whatever Star Fleet would do to us or take off and fend for ourselves. No one left. What will be the fallout of Vos’ actions?
