The Karemma are a humanoid civilization native to the Gamma Quadrant planet Karemma.
They are members of the Dominion, and official relations between these people and any Alpha Quadrant species was established in 2370 by the Ferengi for trade purposes.
Although the Karemma are mercantilist by nature, it's been said that they are classy about it: think fine gem appraiser, not used car salesman.
Biology
Physically, Karemma are tall and slender, with black or dark brown hair that is typically in a combed back fashion.
They have a head ridge that is smooth and without edges. The head ridge slopes downwards, goes over the nose, and can be slightly seen to the chin. As a result of this ridge, their nose looks very large. The nose is quite wider in the lower end than that of other humanoids. One line in the skin on each side of their nose points downwards to the outer sides of their face.
Karemma have eyes that are gray, black, or brown in color.
Society
The "Karemma Commerce Ministry" is the branch of government through which all trade goes through.
Karemma believed that they had nothing to do with the Dominion War, though they were astonished that the "Alpha savages" emerged victorious.
The Karemma were an important economic power in the Dominion. They engaged in trade with non-Dominion races, which was overseen by the Karemma Commerce Ministry, housed in the Ministry of Trade on their home planet. Exported products included tulaberry wine, fleece, and torpedoes. Their unit of currency is the "dirak," and like most traders, they also accept latinum.
Officially, the Karemma believe that all merchandise has a set fair value, determined by the raw materials and labor involved in its creation, transportation costs, and a reasonable profit margin. They generally have a dim view of underhanded business practices, believing that greed leads to misjudgment and reduced profits. In actual practice, the Karemma have been known to sell substandard goods.
The Karemma maintained their own fleet of ships and unique technologies.

Known History
In 2371, Federation representatives aboard the USS Defiant, NX-74205 came together with First Minister Ornithar in an attempt to contact the Founders.
The First Minister admitted that the only contact the Karemma had with the Founders was through their representatives, the Vorta.
He did direct the Defiant crew to Callinon VII, where they had been instructed to send all inquiries.
The following year, the Karemma began conducting trade with the Federation, exporting goods such as Karemman fleece.
The Ferengi acted as neutral intermediaries, although they unfairly gouged the Karemma with fabricated taxes and tariffs.
In 2381, Trade Minister Korzak led a delegation to Deep Space 9 to discuss resuming trade with the Alpha Quadrant.
The Karemma were skeptical of the talks, and prepared a contingency plan to disable the station's power system in case they needed to evacuate.
