Personal History
Toon Jer-Na was born on his home planet of Aurelia, the son of two traveling historians. For the first few years of his life, Toon was raised by midwives in the rookery where he was hatched. At the age of three, he met his parents for the first time. Despite worries by his midwives that he would have difficulty bonding with his parents after their long absence, Toon bonded quickly with his parents and joined them on their next multi-year tour of the Alpha quadrant. Many of his major childhood and adolescent milestones were experienced on other planets, including learning to fly on Vulcan and learning to pilot a starship while traveling along the Federation/Cardassian border.
During his travels, Toon gained a great appreciation for history, becoming most fascinated with the relatively short histories of various colony worlds. Comparing the history of a planet pre- and post-colonization became a major hobby of his, which eventually lead to a growing interest in terraforming technology. As time went on, Toon began to show a greater and greater aptitude for scientific study, leading his parents to encourage him to enroll in Starfleet. Toon embraced this career path enthusiastically and soon found himself graduating with honors in the field of botany and terraforming.
After graduation Starfleet Academy, Toon traveled from outpost to outpost, conducting mostly research assignments and publishing several papers on innovative and progressive terraforming techniques. Due to his exceptional performance, his superior officers never pushed Toon to seek assignment on a Starship, as is customary for most young officers. Eventually however, Toon found that his inexperience began to affect the seriousness with which others approached his research work. After several months of requests, he was eventually granted the position of Chief Science Officer aboard the USS Intrepid, a position he finds unpalatable, but necessary.
