Personal History
Early Life
Born to a large family that came from generations of farmers from the Kendra Valley, Tarel’s father, Julis, was born during the occupation. He began training as a Monk and attained the level of prylar. His first wife died after earthquakes tore through the providence during the Reckoning, leaving behind three children. Julis left the Order and returned to his ancestral farm, taking over a portion from Tarel’s grandfather. Eventually, Julis re-married Tarel’s mother, and they proceeded to have six more children. Tarel grew up, with his brother and sisters, working on the farm.
Tarel was a precocious child who always was asking why something was the way it was. He excelled at science and mathematics and at age 16 was accepted to the Bajorian Institute of Science to begin his apprenticeship. Always wanting to know how things worked, he was quickly drawn to the sub-molecular world. He progressed rapidly, and as Bajor was being admitted into the Federation, he made aspirations to join Starfleet Academy, as the type of science he was drawn to was limited in Bajor.
Tarel had stated to put in his initial application to Starfleet when he was 20, however the war with the Krynar had broken out, and his two oldest brothers, Kaitho & Jirel, had enlisted with the Bajoran Militia to fight, along with the twins, Etim & Rhoro. Tarel left the Institute to return to help his father on the farm. Kaitho and Jirel had been killed during a battle with the Krynar. His youngest sisters had been sent off world when then fighting stated. The twins had come back to Bajor on leave when Bajor was destroyed by the Krynar.
From Tarel’s perspective there was a giant shift in the sky, and then a huge meteor shower, when in fact the planet of Bajor had been pushed three years in the future thanks to the Profits. While Bajor was absent, his second youngest sister, Eexo, had died due to an illness. When they re-appeared, the loss hit Tarel and his parents very hard. He always felt likes he let Eexo down, and The experience solidified what he wanted, and he felt the best way was to have the Federation help drive him so he could understand what happened to him and his entire home world.
