Mission Summary

Stardate 21503.19

Prelude

A situation had risen in the Gulanda System and it has been decided that a vessel needed to be assigned to study the, for lack of a better word, phenomenon. Deep space survey identified the Gulanda System just prior to the Krynar invasion. It's a binary system and two of its planets, Gulanda ɑ-III and Gulanda β-IV to be precise, are inhabited. The population of ɑ-III would seem to have reached a level roughly equivalent to Earth's own industrial revolution, while the population of β-IV appears to be much more advanced, having reached a space age. Obviously, with the Krynar threat, there was no follow-up to this initial survey until recently when USS Wright conducted a system-wide survey. On their initial pass of Gulanda ɑ-III they discovered a wide-spread viral epidemic, which had not been recorded by the previous survey. Upon their second pass of the planet, on their way out of the system, they noted that the epidemic had become a global concern and had already resulted in 30% population loss. Wright, sighting the Prime Directive, did not investigate beyond these scans and has since moved on to her next assignment.

Star Fleet Medical was curious as evaluation of Wright's sensor data would seem to indicate a potentially unnatural developmental course for this virus. As such, the Intrepid was sent to further the investigation. A group of leading virologists arrived later and joined the Intrepid for this assignment to determine just what is going on. Our orders were hat if this is a natural phenomenon, the prime directive applies. If not, I was to exercise my judgment in determining the situation and the best course of action for addressing it.

Mission

At first the scientists were not able to prove that the virus was man-made. So as per the prime directive, our hands were tied. To make matters more interesting, we met the Korim, who were the inhabitant of the neighboring planet, supposedly at early space age technology level. That said, they had a large armada blockading the planet and claiming self defense against the pandemic. We started negotiating access to the planet with their crown prince who seemed to arrive on the scene unexpectedly, but ended up entangled in the middle of a coup attempt.

The General leading the blockade accused the Intrepid of assassinating the Crown prince, and ordered the armada to engage us. Our technology advancement gave us an important edge and we were able to stand our ground long enough for our away team and marines to free the prince and take the Paramount - the Korim flag ship. However, we learned a couple of things from that battle:

One: The Korim were buying weapons technology off the black market and as a result they were advancing rapidly and were able to put up a dangerous fight.

Second: The General, who lead the coup attempt, was acting out of desperation caused by blackmail. The reason became a lot clearer later.

At this point things got a lot worse. A vessel of unknown design, though it looked a lot like a heavily modified bird of prey, decloaked and opened fire on the intrepid. Causing major damage to the ship and disabling its entire aft facing weapon's. The man behind the attack was identified as the Reaper; a wanted high profile criminal, known in the black market for illegal weapons trading. He sliced the throat of General's only remaining child in cold blood and on an open frequency for everyone in the system to watch. He did it to punish her for allowing us to cure the people down on the planet from the virus. As it was, the General who had dealings in the past with the Reaper in acquiring black market technology was pushed into deploying the virus and safe guarding it after he had kidnapped her child. The crown prince's arrivals on the scene in response to our presence had complicated things and lead her to mount a coup attempt.

As it turns out, he had the lethal virus bio-engineered to appear as a natural disaster, making it more attractive to buyers. This was the trial run and an attempt to show cases its effectiveness. Fortunately, my medical staff and the scientists had synthesized a cure during our trip in case the virus was not natural. Earlier, Engineering Ensign Glau, my first officer's wife, had disobeyed orders and rigged a shuttle which she used to disperse the cure into the planet's atmosphere. Her actions, while at the time they appeared to defy the prime directive and the chain of command, had saved the lives of billions in the end. She must have figured that career suicide and court martial was worth it. Alas, she got a lot more than what she bargained for.

I later learned that that event had angered the Reaper and lead to his appearance and subsequent attack. Unfortunately, Glau's shuttle was his first target. The Ensign is presumed dead as we helplessly watched her rigged shuttle explode. Our losses in life did not end there. It went on to include other crew member like my chief science officer, Orano and the woman behind the cure chief medical officer Thrace. I had just finished the painful task of contacting the families of our fallen comrades and informing them of their loved ones' demise.

When the dust was settled, the General was arrested, and the crown prince showed her mercy. The Prince also attempted to strengthen the relations between the Korim Empire and the Federation by proposing to a couple of the female away team officers with various levels of success. I felt that I had to step in to resolve the situation and prevent any misunderstandings regarding the Federation traditions and diplomacy. Also, it is worth mentioning that after the marines have taken the Paramount, her Captain offered his sword to me as he surrendered the ship. After the cessation of hostilities, I offered the Paramount sword back to her Captain but he declined. Not to be rude to the man’s traditions, I elected to keep the beautiful piece and added to my growing collection of souvenirs…

Logs

Acting Captain's Logs

Commander Dietrich Kaiser

Stardate 21506.25

Having entered the Gulandan System to research the plagude on the third planet, we've encountered a Korim armada. Their intentions seemed genuine at first but they have claimed to have murdered our Away Team including the Captain and Commander Jackson. I've sent Chief of Security Korl to rescue the team or to avenge them. In the mean time, we've used Intrepid to beat back their fleet and are now waiting to hear from the away team.

Chief Tactical Officer's Personal Log Stardate 21503.15 Lieutenant Elizabeth Rage Recording:

Oh good lordy! *crash*

Note to self, pay more attention when sitting down, as to avoid landing on the floor.

Anyways,

I have been promoted to CTO, which excites and scares me all at the same time. I was completely shocked when the Captain sprang the question, I wouldn't have thought in a million years he would ask me to take the position, yet here I am. I am honored, and very grateful I have made this far in my career. Now my biggest worry is being able to take charge, to make sure I keep a balance on that line between friendship and being in charge of the those within the Tactical Department. I believe I can manage that, seem to be doing well so far.

Also got a new member to the Tactical Department as well, so we shall have to wait and see how things go with her. From my first impression I think she will do well.

We are headed back to SBA for some much needed shore leave, which I believe is way over do! I'll have to keep myself in check this time around, as I don't want to go around blindly drunk and make a fool of myself, again.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Jadaris

Stardate 21502.03

Chief Engineer Lieutenant Junior Grade Jadaris recording.

Its only been a few weeks since my Ensign promotion, and with everything that's happened, I should be thankful that the Captain has given me the position of Chief Engineer. With my experience with the Ordhelm, I'm starting to think that I may be better suited towards keeping the ship together. The mental scarring from that incident will likely be problematic with other races that are telepathic, but since Ki'sa was part of that, I should just remember that she helped keep everything together.

Once, I dreamed that I would join Star Fleet, and work my way towards becoming a Chief Science Officer. I'd say that the position of Chief Engineer is better than that. It comes with a requirement to take a diplomacy class, but I should be able to shed my colonial diplomacy and replace them with civilized, Star Fleet standards. I should probably go and move my stuff from my former quarters to the senior officer's quarters. Considering that I never bothered to unpack, it should be easy.

It still seems somewhat like a dream, but the Ordhelm taught me how to differentiate between fiction and reality. I should probably start moving. After all, Engineering needs its Chief Engineer, and I am that Engineer now. I won't have time for experiments or the like, since my time will be spent trying to increase our CER towards 80%, and towards keeping the ship together.

Lt.(JG) Michelle Price

Stardate 21503.20

Personal Log: Stardate 21503.20 Midshipman Michelle Price Recording:

  • sigh* It's been less then 24 hours and my hopes for a 'comfy' visit have been almost entirely crushed. Starting with my bump in with the Chief Medical Officer, I successfully made yet another bad first impression. Just my luck. I was also welcomed by the pleasantness of a filthy room- just the cherry on the cake.

Honestly, this room in inhabitable *gags* so I might just press my 'luck' even further and have a word with the Captain about... relocation. Well I think I just might make my way to Ten Forward to blow off some steam- the longer I'm out of "my quarters" the better. Hopefully there will be no further surprises...

LCdr Jordan Thrace

Stardate 21505.03

The new medical staff seems to be working out quite well. She seems very eager and she definitely knows her stuff. I will continue to monitor her progress to see her growth.

There was an explosion on deck 7 recently. Price was the first to respond with a few nurses. She handled the situation beautifully. Injuries weren't THAT bad. Jadaris suffered from a broken leg and some bruising. Other crew members sustained 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burns. See full report in crew's medical files.

We are about to embark on a mission where an entire planet is at risk from a virus. We will see how this goes. Price is on the away team. I have a Vulcan virologist working with Ren to try to synthesize a cure. We will be under the prime directive as to if we are going to administer the cure or not. If we can create one.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Ki'sa Orano

Stardate 21505.03

My lab my beautiful Science lab ruined...I am so angry right now those people that left out those mines are to blame and Jadaris is hurt as well as several Engineers, Oh they are so lucky I am not on the away team right now which is kinda of odd....normally they always bring a science officer on an away mission....I don't don't like this Mr Captain is going down on the planet with an away team and what happens if it ends the same way as last time?

I still need to apologies to Mr Lt Korl, I feel responsible for the death of Madam Lieutenant Hill,If only I could sense there dis....eption..Curse this language....I could of stopped the away team of going to the planet....I wont let it happened again, if those Aliens mess with my friends I will show them some Betazoid hospitality.

I have to end this log and tend to my science lab and to see if I can fix my ESH, poor thing died saving Jadaris and the others.

Stardate 21508.16

Chief Engineer's Personal Log Stardate 21508.16

The away team and boarding party were successful, but at a high cost. The Intrepid was attacked by an unknown force, possibly allied with the Korim. It cost the lives of Lieutenant Orano and Commander Thrace. With the loss of Orano however, my efficiency has been reduced. I experienced death through the Imzadi bond, and I will remember it for the rest of my life. The damage to the ship is managable, but I wonder if I will ever recover from the damage done to me. The mind does not heal easily, and perhaps I will have to spend some time on Betazed to assist in managing the damage. But I will make sure that whoever attacked us will regret it. I sit here in my quarters recording this log, maybe hoping that when I revisit it later, I will have learned more about the bond. But I know that its not going to be the same ever again. For now, I must do my duty, and continue onwards, despite everything that has happened.

Stardate 21509.16

Stardate 21509.16

The ‘eS-Dee’ of today is 21509.16 and this is Lieutenant Junior Grade O’Neill of the red-shirt-officers-club recording.

Well I had never expected such a hectic start of my career. As you can see I have already become a Lieutenant junior grade. This is mainly due to the away team mission that I had been assigned to, but apparently I did more things well.

We have been investigating the Gulanda system for the past weeks, apparently something happened with the Korim and the populations there. It seems there was a, how do you call that..well frankly blackmailing and highly sensitive and lethal experiments on a population. In other words mass-murder. I am not going to go and speak too much about the past events but we have had some casualties due to a heavily cloaked ship, and its most crual master. The Korim have named him the Reaper…the sound of it alone sounds pretty precarious. I am very interested in its technology and aim, why is he doing such things. Unfortunately I was unable to ask questions to the general, who lost her daughter as a result. Acutally we don’t have any evidence and have made a run for it. Which was a lot easier when we did not need to crawl through a freakin’ mine field!

At that moment it really felt that we were left here, in the darkness, just you know.. on our own. Making unpleasant memories that you wake up with during your sleep. I can feel the pain of the others…there is no way to deny it, I mean friends and partners have been lost. Shot in the dark. It is like, to me, there is nothing left to say, but we do need to find a way to get even with this Reaper. I’m not done with it yet. For me this feeling is new, it’s a fire inside me that makes me stronger, I believe I am here to help, to live, to fight to hunt that piece of trash down.

But it is not going to happen anytime soon. We have been told to head back to Starbase Alpha and we are travelling back to that place. I am disappointed with that recall, I was really eager to get my first hands- on experience in a ship-to-ship fight but apparently that is a more distant dream for now. Well I guess that was it… oh yeah besides my captain turned down my marriage with the most fabulous Prince. There goes my chance to ever become royalty, and yes I am still pissed off about that.

Stardate 21509.17

First Officer's Personal Log, Stardate 21509.17:

It's been a month since it all happened. We had finally taken care of the Korim threat and cured the virus when he appeared. Attacked us out of no where. Attack Layna's shuttle. Lost a lot of people. Ki'sa, Jordan...and Layna. I thought we had our whole lives ahead of us. I waited too long to propose. I don't know why i waited so long. We were going to have a family and grow old together. Now I'll be alone. I miss her....i miss her so much. I will avenge them all and make him pay for what he's done. I will hunt him to the ends of the galaxy and bring justice upon him. He took my life away and I'll take his. So help me, God.

This makes me question my future with Starfleet. How can I keep focused after this? How can i be of value to the Captain and this crew. I feel useless and distracted. How can i possibly be of any use now. Maybe I should just resign and go back to my farm. I don't know. I think i need to give it more time because I don't want to act rash. On the other hand, all I have left is Starfleet and this crew. I wouldn't have made it this far if it weren't for the support I've received.

I don't think I'll be able to go near Engineering without thinking of her. Nor to Sickbay without thinking of Jordan. I know every cookie that I'll enjoy for the rest of my life will make me think of Ki'sa.

No one comes into my house and hurts my family. No one. I'm going to bury the Reaper.

Computer, begin log.

Personal log, stardate 21509.12. I've been told by my self-appointed.....therapist... that it's a good idea to keep a personal log in order to help account for my thoughts and perspective on the goings-on around me. I didn't entirely agree, but I promised I would try.

I suppose I'll start with the good first. Yesterday, I was promoted to the rank of Ensign. Truth be told, I'm grateful, but I wasn't expecting it so soon. Commander Kaiser expressed that the Captain found my performance on the away mission to be satisfactory and that he looked forward to working with me. Honestly I'd rather that time wait until I can be sure I won't have another episode like I did on the Korim ship.

Speaking of which, we lost people on this mission, some of the senior officers . Both the Chief Medical and Science Officers, along with the Commander's wife. I don't think I will ever be able to relate to how that in particular may feel.......

That mission was hard on everyone, even the Korim. We need to find out who this "Reaper" is. This man is just as bad, if not worse than the Orion Syndicate, and I'm sure anyone who saw that transmission would agree with me.

With the issue in mind...it might be a good idea if anyone doing Bridge Duty is cross trained for another position just in case. I don't know how well it would fly as a policy, but nothing says I can't do that myself.....Alright then. Computer, end log.

Chief science officer log Star Date 21510.04

Where do I start? The Repair team are incompetent, the ship is disorganized and the people wont leave me alone, everyone has something to say about ki'sa! Oh Ki'sa was loved by everyone we will miss her, wrong they won't miss her....they will forget....

They can't sense her aura that lingers on every deck, I can still feel her warm smile every time I go to the bridge, Please let them stop reminding me that shes dead.....every time I bump into someone they have to remind me....I....Can't be like her.....they don't understand I'm not Ki'sa I'm.....Mia.....just...Mia....

Oh yeah and I met the first officer today, boy that could of gone better but how was I supposed to react, I am so sick and tired of hearing about my cousin

I'm ending this log before I break somthing....
