Personal History
Was found abandoned on the docks of Cork where he was raised by his foster mother and father. Spent a lot of his life studying his background and the history of the IRA and also took a disliking to authority quite early on.
In school he was a popular child and like most people in Ireland took to drinking from an early age. When studying he discovered an interest for Psychology which he decided to pursue as a career path.
At the academy he fell in love with a young woman called Eleanor and the two were married whilst still at the academy but she cheated on him with another person from his class and the two later divorced. From then on Desmond tended to notice that he tended to fail with things or he would be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
He passed the academy second time around but was later imprisoned for an identification mix up with the authorities and he was held for nearly a year before the mistake was fixed.
After this Desmond went on a space yacht race to Teller and back, ending up as the only one to not finish the race at all because he got attacked by a Ferengi Marauder and had to pay for them to release him. This sense of failure has added to the lack of self confidence in all but counselling which is still something Desmond regards himself as not failing at.
