Hideki-Class Frigate
The Hideki-type Frigate is a Cardassian Union starship class, of the Frigate type.
History
First encountered in 2401, this larger variant of the Hideki class is classified by Star Fleet as a frigate-equivalent. Broadly similar in design to the Hideki first encountered in the Dominion War, this craft is a vastly upscaled version, similar to how the various Klingon Birds of Prey shared similar designs across numerous scales.
Despite being larger than the Federation's Berlin Class Frigates, the ship has not demonstrated commensurate ability. Sporting multiple Spiral-Wave Disruptor emplacements in the fore as well as a Photon Torpedo launcher, it is not as heavily armed as the Berlin-class in a head-on engagement, nor does it have the speed and maneuverability of its counterpart. To compensate, the ship is also armed with another Spiral-Wave Disruptor bank and torpedo launcher to aft, helping it to cover itself from a more maneuverable enemy.
On a tactical level, the Cardassian military has adopted a "wolf-pack" style deployment methodology, deploying these craft in twos and threes rather than singly. Each ship may not be equal to their counterparts in other navies, but they make up for it in numbers and teamwork, focusing on single targets as a group before moving on.
One more recent modification seen during the currently ongoing Cardassian-Talarian War is the addition of a single large beam weapon, usually only equipped to one ship out of a pack. It seems broadly similar to the cutting beam utilized by the Borg, though not as powerful. Eyewitness accounts say that the weapon was used to finish off weakened opponents, especially when the Hidekis were dealing with equal numbers. This has not been seen in every engagement, though Star Fleet Intelligence has recently received intelligence to confirm that the weapon does indeed exist. Exactly deployment numbers of it are unknown, though likely rare.
