Dr. Henry Archer was the primary developer of the first warp engine capable of reaching warp five. He was also one of the principal designers of the Enterprise, NX-01.

Father to Captain Jonathan Archer, he had a great influence on his son's career.

Henry Archer worked closely with Dr. Zefram Cochrane to develop the warp five engine as part of the "NX Program."

Unfortunately, he spent the last two years of his life experiencing frequent pain and hallucinations, talking to people who weren't there, and often not even recognizing his son or wife due to advanced Clarke's Disease.

He died in 2124, before his warp five engine could be constructed, due to the Vulcans holding back the engine's development program.

As a result, Jonathan Archer's resentment towards Vulcans grew into a grudge, which held until the 2150s.

    • Clarke's Disease (also called Clarke's Syndrome) is a progressive, degenerative disorder of the Human brain.
Symptoms include hallucinations and (in the terminal stage) severe pain.
The disorder is ultimately fatal, and was incurable as of the 22nd century.
