Personal History

Helen Sophia Tuyen Trang-Constantine, usually known as Helen Constantine, or to her friends, Nell, was born in Ho Chi Minh city to Kim Ðức Trang, a Starfleet doctor, and Irina Constantine, an actress. Her parents separated when Nell was a baby, and she rarely saw her father after that, as he was usually on duty. When he did visit, he would take her to museums and holosuites to show her all the fascinating things he saw on his missions. However, he and the rest of his away team vanished mysteriously when Nell was seven. Nell’s mother has resented him and Starfleet in general ever since.

Nell was raised in her mother’s mansion in Tripoli, Greece, and homeschooled her entire life- her mother said it was to protect her from the tabloids as both her parents were prominent, but really it was because keeping her daughter away from the public nipped any potential embarrassments in the bud. Thusly, Nell had no friends growing up other than a series of tutors, a rotating cast of hypoallergenic dogs, and stacks upon stacks of holoprograms that Irina Constantine thought might make up for the fact that she hardly ever saw her daughter in person. Nell’s favorite of these wasn’t even given to her by her mother- it was a program that used to belong to her father, an interactive presentation about cybernetics given by a simulation of Lt. Cmd. Data. She spent so much time in this program that her mother eventually had it confiscated. This program, among other things, spurred on her interest in cybernetic enhancement and the concept of cyborgs in general.

Naturally, she became infatuated with the Borg and the melding of humanoid and machine. Her obsession bordered on the macabre, and this unsettled her mother, who, when Nell was sixteen, had all of her material on the subject taken away. Nell promptly got a bag of essentials together, wrote a terse note that she left on the foot of her bed, climbed out the window, and headed directly to the nearest transport station. She headed straight to Starfleet academy, walked in the front door, and demanded that they accept her as a student. They insisted she take the exam first, which she did and somehow managed to pass. She decided to follow the medical track as she did this initially to **** off her mom and following in her dad’s footsteps would definitely rub salt in the wound.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Medical
Academy Minor(s): Forensics, Cybernetics, Neuroscience
Hobbies and Pastimes: Origami, keyboard, climbing around in the Jeffreys tube and leaving stuff to confuse engineering, arguing with people online about temporal mechanics
Short-Term Goals: Win an argument online about temporal mechanics, give somebody a biomechanical replacement of some kind (she’s only ever practiced on cadavers and holosuite characters)
Long-Term Goals: Become a cyborg!
Personality: Arrogant, entitled, and capricious. She’s used to being the smartest person in any given room, and is in for a nasty shock when she finds out that she isn’t anymore. She’s less of a Doctor Crusher and more of a Doctor Frankenstein
Sense of Humor: She has a wit sharp enough to punch through a bulkhead
Phobias: Transporters
Likes: Bugs, classical music, robotics, 20th century synth pop, people who go along with her schemes
Dislikes: Her mom, loud environments, people who don’t go along with her schemes
Pet Peeves or Gripes: People who get really preachy about Starfleet protocol
Bad Habits or Vices: Snips at people and tends to laugh at inappropriate moments.
Achievements: Got into Starfleet academy out of sheer spite.
Disappointments: Failed to qualify for early graduation due to “attitude issues.”
Strengths: Thinks outside the box, iron willed, daring, analytical
Weaknesses: Unempathetic, uncompromising, impulsive
Fears: That she’ll always live in the shadow of her parents, that she’ll die forgotten
Prejudices: Being a fairly amoral character, she doesn’t have many racial prejudices and mainly judges people on her first impressions of them. That being said, her first impressions are almost always bad.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Dark clothing with lots of high collars and sharp angles.
Distinguishing Features: A very intense, intimidating stare
Pets: 5 poison dart frogs all named Harvey. She has a license to keep them.
Friends: Her roommate at the academy

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Her father’s disappearance.
Best Time: She got drunk with her roommate once.
Most Crucial Experience: Watching that first holofilm about cybernetics.
Role Model: Data, Julian Bashir, and her father (or at least her memory of him.)
