Personal History
Joseph Harret was born and grew up in Tycho City, on the far side of Luna, Earth’s Moon. His father was the Chief Engineer of the USS Brahe for several years before retiring to Tycho City, and his service as Chief Engineer sufficiently inspired his son that Joseph took the entrance exam for Star Fleet Academy. Joseph passed with flying colours, graduating several years later as a gifted Engineering Midshipman and being sent to the USS Titan. Promotion came rapidly, with Joseph eventually becoming Chief Engineer onboard Outpost 10, a monitoring station on the Federation side of the Neutral Zone.
It was on Outpost 10 that he met his future wife, Lindsey Orphley, serving with her for a short time before marrying her. On shore leave, they celebrated the birth of their son, George, before Joseph had to leave for the Outpost. Only a few weeks into his second tour on the Outpost, he received the tragic news that his wife and child had perished in a fire in Tycho City. Denied emergency leave by his CO, Commander Trenton, Joseph became increasingly withdrawn and mentally unstable, behaving erratically. When the Outpost had to be evacuated to avoid being hit by an asteroid, the Lieutenant fought off an attempt to subdue him and escaped into the Outpost, being left behind with a newly arrived Midshipman who was awaiting transfer to the USS Gettysburg.
Harret attacked the Midshipman, wounding him and nearly killing him in the process, and became ever more deranged. By the time the Gettysburg arrived, he had become truly deranged, and acted to stop the crew of the Gettysburg from moving the Outpost. He used a modified transponder to interfere with transporter signals, resulting in the death of an enlisted Engineer, and laid traps in the Outpost that accounted for two other deaths. Eventually subdued by the crew of the Gettysburg, he was detained in their brig for transfer to a more secure facility and trial.
