Personal History
Richard was born to parents who had lived in the same town all their lives. Dick grew up and attended local school and college that all his family had attended.
During his school years Dick learned of his family tree line. He learned that most of his male lines had served in the military, and that his military service line goes back to the Second World War. After the third world war, and during the time of upheaval, the families of Winters and Guarnere were joined by marriage of Winters' daughter and Guarnere's son.
In his college years Richard decided that once he finished education he was going to follow the family line and join the marine corp.
He passed training with specialist skills using all kinds of rifles, and then went through officer training at West Point Military Academy.
Following his graduation parade, 2nd Lieutenant Guarnere was sent straight to the front line in command of a small combat unit. Within a week, Dick had become friends with another Lieutenant from an opposite unit, 2nd Lieutenant Randleman. During R&R and down time, these two men were always found together going over their latest mission or battle plans.
On one such mission, Lt Guarneres’ unit was called upon to rush to the aid of another unit which was bogged down in a fire fight with the enemy, upon arrival and evacuating the unit, it was learned that the unit was in commanded by 2nd Lieutenant Randleman. Unfortunately, he was killed in the fire fight. This effected Richard hard, and he even considered resigning his commission. However, after a few weeks back in a reserve area, Lieutenant Guarnere was able to, as much as possible, learn to live with losing his close friend.
About 11 months after being deployed, Lieutenant Guarnere was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and was given complete command of the company after the original commanding officer was killed the month before in an enemy raid on his command post.
Following clearing out the planet of the enemy, which took 2 years, Richard and his unit returned to Earth for complete rest and relaxation.
Richard was reassigned to the starship USS Dauntless CA-1553 as their Marine Commander, where he served one mission before he was promoted to the rank of Captain, where he served another 2 years.
After the Romulan war ended, Guarnere was reassigned to StarBase Alpha where his expertise would be readily available for missions when marines were needed for them.
