Personal History

Thomas was born the second of five children. His mother and father separated shortly after the fifth son was born, as his father went back to the farming community his family had been in for generations and is mother took the children back to Delta Vega where he was raised until his 14th birthday, when he moved back to Earth to live with his father.

At the ripe age of 16, Thomas, the 'brainiac' of the children, joined Star Fleet academy.

He was always the 'brains' of the family, whereas his brothers were more athletic and outdoorsy. He was known as the 'bookworm' and it wasn't used in a positive manner.

Thomas joined Star Fleet Academy at the early age of 16, having aced the exams. He spent eight years there, requesting additional courses after his first four were up, rather than being assigned to a ship right away. He then went through another four years before getting his Doctorate. His mother was proud and to this day calls him "Doctor Grayson", which actually annoys him slightly.

Thomas then served on a dozen starships, and then commanded three starships before being assigned to Star Fleet R&D and then Star Fleet Command. Moving through the ranks quickly for his achievements, he reached the rank of Rear Admiral at the age of 45.

Now Star Fleet has implied that they want him to move into the field, and he is considering options.

UPDATE 21106.14:

Thomas spent nearly a year in command of the Omega-4 group and for part of that time as CO of USS Nova. During that time he met the (first and only) love of his life Tyra Crawford. The two have been in a serious relationship all that time. She makes him whole.

Toward the end of this time, he commanded a semi-failed mission to Carraya. Technically the mission was to drive out Klingon invaders, and they did that, but due to a combination of bad intel and some unforeseen circumstances they left the planet in what may have been a worse state than the Klingons would have left it. It appears to now be under the control of a popular criminal organization... a sort of democracy but with very questionable individuals in the leadership.

Following Carraya, Thomas and Tyra fled to Earth, taking an unplanned shore leave to Earth. This landed him in a small amount of hot water with the new CinC, Fleet Admiral T'Mana who expected him to be on Star Base Delta for the trial of Vice Admiral Derrick Grant and to be promoted to Fleet Commander. His absence annoyed her greatly.

He was eventually promoted to Vice Admiral and assigned as 4th Fleet Commander assigned at Star Base Delta.

On Star Date 21804.14, Thomas Grayson retired from Star Fleet.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Starship Navigation, Multi Vessel Tactics, Starship Weapons Systems and Helm Operation
Academy Minor(s): Basic Engineering, Basic Stellar Cartography, Ship and Base Internal Security
Hobbies and Pastimes: Thomas likes to explore ancient and current star charts and records, looking for things that were not previously discovered or explored. He is an explorer at heart.
Short-Term Goals: After spending several years working at Star Fleet Command as an advisor to the Chief of Exploration and Navigation, Thomas is considering his options as far as going back into the field, either on a Star Base or a Star Ship.
Long-Term Goals: To make a major discovery worthy of being published.
Personality: Thomas is a thinker, but is also good on his feet. He excels at complex problem-solving and enjoys technical and scientific challenges, even when they are beyond his grasp. He loves working with a team of dynamic and talented individuals.
Sense of Humor: Usually sarcastic and somewhat dry.
Phobias: Thomas' biggest phobia is in not solving a challenge. While he's been faced with many challenges in his life and career, he has always managed to prevail, even if partially. He's never faced true failure.
Likes: He likes ancient jokes and topics and usually employs them in his conversation, sometimes to the confusion of those around him.
Dislikes: Thomas dislikes people who are too serious or cannot enjoy life while working and accomplishing good.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: People who criticize without presenting a solution.
Bad Habits or Vices: A believe in chance, Thomas carries an ancient gold Earth coin called a Kuggerand. He flips it when he is faced with a decision that is equal in value in his estimation. He often makes his decision regardless of the result, but he seems almost obsessed with the coin nonetheless.
Achievements: Thomas willingly did two terms at SFA when he was a student to learn as much as he could. He graduated with a 3.88 grade average.
Disappointments: As a result of his being so focused on his studies and his career early on, Thomas missed out on building a social life, a family, and more.
Illnesses: Thomas was diagnosed with a rare bone disorder at an early age. While it is not curable, he is treated for it with osteo-regeneration every three months for 24 hours to strengthen his bones. It is a disease which affects one in approximately 3 billion humans, and causes a degeneration of bone strength if untreated. If untreated for six months he will start to experience an increasing brittleness of the bones. If treated regularly this does not happen, although he does occasionally experience pain in his bones from it. He also had a major injury to his left knee at an early age and as a result sometimes has a slight limp.
Strengths: Focus... utter focus on solving problems, and a very logical mind on problem-solving, regardless of the topic.
Weaknesses: A rather low resistance to physical pain.
Fears: Dying alone, which is odd as he has no serious relationships with anyone.
Prejudices: None. Thomas is a very open-minded person.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Very casual... prefers shorts and a t-shirt or tank top, occasionally something akin to jeans. Always sneakers.
Distinguishing Features: His height!
Pets: An 8-year-old male Bassett Hound named "Buster"; A 3-year-old terran kitten named "Oliver".
Friends: Retired Star Fleet Commander Ceasar Montesi, formerly of Star Fleet Academy

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: The death of his father when Thomas was in his low 20's.
Best Time: For his thesis, he completed an analysis of dark matter holes in space, and managed to settle a centuries-old debate about how they affected certain subspace fields.
Most Crucial Experience: Being awarded a doctorate (Ph.D) in Advanced Warp Navigation Theory and Application.
Role Model: Doctor Richard Daystrom.
