Personal History

An Orion pirate vessel, while trying to get away from a Starfleet vessel while transporting slaves, entered into a firefight with the ship. The Orion vessel was heavily damaged and the only survivor was a woman who was near full term in her pregnancy. Her injuries induced an early labor and upon giving birth, she said “Her name is Layna” and then she died.

Layna was adopted and raised by humans in North America. Her faith, culture, and language are all that of a human but the difference in the color of her skin would frequently draw the attention and jokes of other children. In her teenage years, she was noticed by every male she encountered but her natural shyness kept her from pursuing many relationships with anyone.

She always enjoyed taking things apart and would frequently disassemble appliances and other electronic gadgets her parents owned. When she was ten she began putting them back together after taking them apart and when she was twelve, she would frequently improve their operation. Machines came naturally to her. When she was a teenager, a vacation to Mars with her parents made her fascinated with the starships they saw when they visited Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. She found one of the crew members and asked them hundreds of questions the entire trip back to Earth.

Once she finished school, she explored her opportunities and found that Starfleet Academy was the way to go. There she would learn about the ships she had seen and one day be able to work on one was a mechanic and engineer.
