Personal History

Early Life

Unfortunately for Garbo he is not good when it came to financial matters. He is always being duped into crazy schemes and coming out the loser at the end. His own father once called him a waste of time.

When he was older Garbo witnessed a visit to Ferenginar by some Star Fleet officers. Knowing the history between his home planet and the Federation he asked his parents for permission to apply for admission into Star Fleet Academy. It was at this time he reminded them of Nog the first Ferengi to enter Star Fleet. With the knowledge that Garbo had no interest in financial matters, his parents had no choice but to grant permission.

Star Fleet Academy

Garbo was not a confident student at first mainly caused by bullying by senior cadets and the fact that he considered many subjects as boring. However he did enjoy the subjects involving warp technology and propulsion systems. A career in Tactical was thus considered.

On learning he was to be posted to the Philadelphia Garbo transferred to Starbase Alpha on the next available shuttle flight which he shared with many other Star Fleet crew members. Garbo was to serve on board the USS Philadelphia, FF-6053 in the Tactical department. When he found his quarters, he discovered he was sharing with Simon Thompson whom was soon to become a firm friend.

First Mission

The USS Philadelphia complete with skeleton crew arrived at the prearranged meeting point with the USS Nova, BB-106 and various other ships belonging to the flotilla. On arrival the ship was advised against approaching during negotiations though once these ended the crew was joined by their new Captain, First Officer and others.

The ship was ordered to investigate a star system that had appeared from an alternate universe. A space-faring civilization had been detected, and they were sent to make first contact. While en route, they stopped at Carraya to attend a Star Fleet Command briefing.

Arriving at the mission location the crew met the Gondwanans during an exchange of crew members. Garbo was not keen on meeting the Gondwanans due to their size and appearance. Many of the crew thought of them as large spiders although in reality their appearance was a cross between a lobster and a spider. They were huge beings, but also seemed very peaceful and were willing to arrange a first contact meeting.

While Admiral Grayson was on planet with an away team, a faction of Gondwanans known as the Neos launched a probe-like vessel from the planet that attached to one of the Gondwanan research stations causing the energy beam to strike the USS Nova. It instantly wiped out all the Nova's electronic systems. The USS Nova had to be evacuated afterwards and the away team was recalled from the planet to help. The Gondwanans also helped house some of the refugees on one of their stations. The USS Philadelphia was unable to take any of the Novas crew at this time.

On discovering the Neos had some kind of genetic disease that was changing their appearance and abilities, the USS Philadelphia crew was ordered to land on the island that housed the infected Neos, and that they would send a research team over consisting of both USS Pegasus, CL-2500 and USS Philadelphia team members.

Thankfully, the ship landed with only minor difficulties, including a damaged landing strut that was quickly repaired. Garbo was the pilot for an away team which was sent to the facility, but problems with the Gondwanans in orbit and on the USS Pegasus caused them to quickly get recalled after finding out very little. The USS Philadelphia was forced to return to orbit only a few hours after it had landed.

In the end, it turned out that the Gondwanans did not have a disease at all, but instead the Neos had been changed deliberately sometime in the past, and the genetics had been passed down through the generations.
