Personal History

===Young Life===

Erik Galloway was born on Science Station Beta 22-9 in the Caldos System. His father served as head of security and his mother as an Engineer. They met and married on the station where Erik was born. He grew up on the station and learned a great deal about Starfleet life and living off-world. Things were great until he was 12 years old and his parents decided to divorce. Erik’s mother resigned from Starfleet and took him back to Earth, where she raised him in her hometown of Trondheim, Norway.

Teenage Years

Erik’s teenage years were fairly tumultuous. He showed great promise academically but tended to remain rebellious and had difficulty following the rules. He did well on tests, but often fell behind in basic class assignments. After graduation, Erik wasted no time in moving away from home. He didn’t attend college as his mother hoped, however, and he ended up working a variety of labor jobs. Erik continued to get into minor trouble, until he was about 22 and met up with a really bad crowd.

Adult Life - Pre-Star Fleet

Erik had been working in a mine near Minsk, Belarus. One day he was approached by some individuals from a group known as the “black diamonds.” They had noticed his exceptional prowess operating the mining speeders at high speeds through the narrow tunnels. They offered him a job as a pilot in their organization. He found the offer hard to resist and quickly joined up. For the next couple years he was involved with numerous “jobs,” some that were illicit, although not outright immoral. The group, as it turned out was involved in various smuggling operations, mostly involving items prohibited by various embargoes. This didn’t bother Erik too much, until he found out he had been the pilot for a job involving the smuggling of illegal weapons. He learned of this after the job was completed and he immediately decided he wanted to get out.

Introduction of Star Fleet

The day before he was planning on making his move to leave, Erik was approached by a member of Starfleet Intelligence. He asked Erik to stay on as a pilot for just one more “job.” Erik learned that the black diamonds had taken a new contract from the Orion Syndicate; one that involved the transportation of humanoid cargo in a black market slave operation. Erik was very reluctant to assist Starfleet Intelligence, as he knew that it could mean certain death if the black diamonds found out about his double cross. In the end, his morality and conscious got the better of him. He assisted with the operation and during the “transport” he made a daring escape from the rest of the gang members, delivering the slaves to freedom. Most of the gang members were arrested by members of Starfleet Security and Intelligence. As a result, Erik was awarded the “Starfleet Civilian Cross ;” one of the highest honors given to civilians, who demonstrate great feats of heroism while assisting the United Federation of Planets in actions against an enemy.

At the strong recommendation of Starfleet Intelligence, Erik decided to lay low for a while to avoid being targeted by the remnants of the gang or the syndicate. He went into seclusion in a remote area of Siberia. It was here that Erik learned how to live off the land and developed a great fondness for the outdoors. After a couple years, he decided to reconcile with his father, who had since retired from Starfleet himself and returned to Earth. Erik rebuilt the relationship with his father as well as his mother. After a period of time Erik realized that he wanted a greater purpose in life; one that would be dedicated to helping others. At age 28, Erik made his decision to join Starfleet Academy.
