Personal History

Jothan enjoyed his childhood, although it seemed that he moved around a lot more than the other children. His father was an expert miner, and his skills were required all over the province. Interestingly, despite growing up in the same household, this fostered a sense of wanderlust in Jothan, but a homebody attitude in his older brother.

His father sadly passed during Jothan's final year of education, and this affected his final grades. This changed his life dramatically as he decided not to follow his brother into service with the Bajoran militia but instead apply to Star Fleet. His poor grades almost blocked his taking of the entrance exam but he was allowed after glowing recommendations from his tutors.

Travelling to the Academy was his first time leaving the Bajoran system, and his first experience seeing the stars pass at warp made him a little queasy, but by the time he reached the Terran system the viewport on the starboard side of deck 2 was his favourite place on the whole ship.

During his time at the Academy, Jothan had been exposed to countless cultures and new experiences, however the biggest effect had been for him to become more involved in a Bajoran pastime. Jothan had only played Springball socially while back home, but at the academy it gave him a chance to connect with his fellow cadets and he developed a passion for the game.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Getting the news whilst in school that his father had passed. He went home and had to deal with people offering their condolences as his mother didn't leave her room due to grief and his brother got drunk.
Best Time: As a 10 year old boy his father took him and his brother to the Karo-Net finals in the capital.
Most Crucial Experience: The conversation he had with his mother and brother regarding his change of mind to join Star Fleet and leave Bajor. Whilst his brother didn't initially understand, his mother helped him to convince Lokan that he needed to do this. This gave him the confidence to follow through knowing that he had this support from his family.
Role Model: Li Nalas, a Bajoran resistance hero who gave his life to stop a coup.
