Personal History

Jarrod was born in Melbourne, the capital of Victoria, down under in Australia. His upbringing was no different than a lot of kids at the time. He went to school, avoided homework, and hung out with a great bunch of friends, not all human. He always had pets around, a cat when he was a young child and dog during later days of Primary School. Of course there were the obligatory fish and budgerigar thrown in there as well.

Jarrod was always fascinated with flight. For as long as he can remember he loved flight. From the days of the single piston aircraft which fascinated him to the thought of modern starships effortlessly floating through space. His family thought he was a little mad, they preferred the assurance of terra firma, or maybe a boat. But not Jarrod, always wanting to do what the birds were doing.

It was in his teen years that he really started to follow through with this passion and in the process decided that Star Fleet was for him. His father and brother, in the family business of fishing and tour guiding were surprised. Jarrod loved as much as the rest of the family to pick up his fishing rod and head off up a lovely serene river or out onto a lake, but he was afraid that doing this for a career would end up taking the joy out of it for him. It was something he wanted to do to relax, not have to teach others. Flying, and longer term Star Fleet, was a different story, something he could strive for and aspire to. Something he could progress in.

As most kids do, he oscillated between what he thought was for him, with respect to Star Fleet, and the uncertainly of not knowing if any decision was the right one. Late teen years can be very indecisive and Jarrod was no different. He postponed his decision for a while and did actually head into the family business with John and Joseph for a little over a year. He loved the time on the water and the being outdoors but as he had suspected early on, the joy did start to fade a little after having to pander to others needs.

He was finally resolute. Star Fleet was for him. He spent a lot of time deciding on which path to take as well, eventually focussing on the tactical side of things, looking at helm, operations, and a little engineering. He never really had the patience for medical and science and thought that his real talents lay in the operational side of things.

His acceptance to the Academy was one of the biggest highlights of his life, and was certainly not an opportunity he was going to miss. The sky is the limit from here.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Tactical
Academy Minor(s): Engineering, Security, and Psychology
Hobbies and Pastimes: When relaxing, Jarrod can be found just sitting back watching a movie, this however is often preceded by dinner and drinks with friends. This is usually his ideal pass time at night. When motivated enough, he will pick up his guitar or open the lid on the piano and tap out a tune. Weekends and days off, Jarrod can often be found outside, dreaming about catching that elusive enormous Trout. Yes, fisherman’s tales
Short-Term Goals: Jarrod aspires to work into a position to lead a small team of staff. He enjoys the challenge of the interaction with other people, and the responsibility of guiding and directing others, hopefully being able to make a difference to their career direction and job satisfaction
Long-Term Goals: As all good people working through the academy, what sort of Cadet would he be if he did not at some stage desire to move up through the ranks and one day, hold his own command. This may be a long time off but is certainly a goal that Jarrod aspires to
Personality: Jarrod is easy going. He has very few conflicts with other people and is often the one to smooth over disagreements and keep the peace. That aside, he does have the ability to make his presence felt when needed. He’s not afraid to tell it to people how it is and get them and things back on track. All in all Jarrod usually attracts friends easily, without being the centre of attention, and the friends he makes are usually for the long haul
Sense of Humor: Yes, he has one, usually encompassed in sarcasm.
Phobias: No real phobias, but he certainly isn’t fond of spiders
Likes: Good Sci-Fi films to escape the reality of life. A well aged Port to sip on at night. Most games based on strategy to get his brain working. Fishing and being outdoors. A fine dining experience at a nice restaurant
Dislikes: People who talk all the time and have no respect for others. Poorly behaved children. Having to pay for a fine dining experience at a nice restaurant. Brussels Sprouts
Pet Peeves or Gripes: People who start a sentence and then don’t finish it. Did I tell you about…oh never mind.
Achievements: Being the first in his family to attend Star Fleet Academy. Placing in the top 5% of his 8th grade mathematics competition
Disappointments: Not taking the time to be involved in team sports as a child. Sounds silly but something that has bothered him
Illnesses: None
Strengths: The fact that Jarrod is easy going is one of his biggest strengths. He makes friends easily and is good at diffusing a tense situation. He finds that people enjoy his company and are likely to comply with his requests because of mutual respect
Weaknesses: His easy going nature can also be a negative at times, not getting things completed in as timely a fashion as he would sometimes like. While he will make his presence known where needed sometimes he feels he may leave this a little too long because of a friendship he might have with the person
Fears: None
Prejudices: None
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Jeans and a T or polo shirt with comfortable runners
Distinguishing Features: None
Pets: None
Friends: T’vul. Jarrod met his Vulcan friend while T’vul was on an exchange trip to Earth. He was experiencing new cultures on Earth while some earth children were experiencing the same on Vulcan. This was for only a short time but the two seemed to hit it off reasonably quickly. Jarrod’s rather logical mind appealed to the Vulcan and it really allowed Jarrod to explore further that side of his physique. T’vul and Jarrod grew very close and have kept in contact over the years, catching up where possible. T’vul is an artist and resides on Vulcan. He is undecided about his future and has looked at options such as Star Fleet. One day he will make up his mind

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: The loss of grandparents while young. His grandparents, on his mother’s side actually lived with him while growing up. His grandmother in particular would play with him, make him lunch for school and even tidy his room when he was a child. His grandfather would take him out to play at the park, spend time finding out about his day and taught him how to play Chess, this got the logical, problem solving side of his mind working. They were lost in a tragic shuttle accident, severe wind shear while attempting a landing returning from vacation. It left a severe hole in his life as they were very close knit. It was some time before Jarrod came out of his shell again. He did use the experience however as a catalyst for his interest in flight, and was determined not to let the event make him fear the possibilities what might go wrong in life
Best Time: Holidays with family. They would annually take camping and fishing trips and it was a great time to relax in nature and just enjoy each others company
Most Crucial Experience: Decision to join Star Fleet following his stint as a fishing/tour guide. This decision has the potential to change his entire life.
Role Model: Jean Luc Picard, the epitome of a Star Fleet Captain. Jarrod wishes to emulate him one day, not to be in a position of power, but to be a respected member of Star Fleet.
