Firehawk Class Battle Cruiser
In response to the increasing confidence of the rebels on Ecurai and the possibility of Federation involvement in the the Empire's civil war, the Imperial Fleet commissioned a new class of vessel to help deal with the threats. The Firehawk Class Battle Cruiser was designed to be faster, larger and more heavily armed than the Pvash Class Heavy Cruisers that dominated the fleet. Equipped with ablative armor and the latest technology, it was also meant to fill in the gap between the smaller Kerchan Class Dreadnought, which was designed to fight in close quarters, and the large Mosaram Class Warbird, which is capable of standing its ground in a head-to-head battle.
The Firehawk class battle cruiser, like most modern Romulan vessels, features a forward Command Hull, where the majority of the ship's daily activities occur, and an aft Main Hull, connected by two Midsections. Unlike the older D'deridex class warbird, however, Main Engineering is contained in the Main Hull, not the Command Hull.
Based on the prototype RIS Firehawk, the RIS Shadowhawk, dedicated on Stardate 20804.21, became the first of its class to be launched into full service. A second vessel, the RIS Bloodhawk, was launched on Stardate 20911.04, during the midst of the Third Romulan Civil War.
