The planet is located approximately fifty-five light years from Cardassia Prime, and sixty light years from Bajor. Ferenginar is the capital planet of the Ferengi Alliance, best known for having nearly constant, planet-wide torrential rains, rotting vegetation, and rivers of muck. Due to the near-constant levels of torrential rain, the buildings are kept under domes, which help keep the resident Ferengi dry. Many large cities are present around the planet, but the capital city has been said to be the most impressive city on the planet. Dominating the capital city is a huge spire, the Tower of Commerce, which marks the Sacred Marketplace, and the seat of government for the Grand Nagus of the Ferengi Alliance.

Known flora (plant life) are the hooyup tree and the jooble. Known fauna (animal and insect life) are the fangcat, the gleeworm, and the tube grub.

Landmarks include the Nagal Residence, the Sacred Marketplace, and the Tower of Commerce.

In 2378, there were 78.2 billion Ferengi living on this world.

  • Nagal Residence: The gigantic, lavishly-appointed home of the Ferengi leader, the Grand Nagus. It is located in the capital city of Ferenginar, with a view of the Tower of Commerce.
Rumor has it that even the waste extraction fixtures were plated with latinum.

  • Great Marketplace: Also known as the Sacred Marketplace, it is located in the capital city. It houses several important government buildings, including the Tower of Commerce. Also central to the conduct of Ferengi business, and several traditional rites, including criminal punishments. Criminals and other deviants were often thrown from the spire of the Tower, and landed in the Marketplace. Crowds gathered to watch the execution, and placed wagers on where the victims would land. Lesser crimes were punished with public humiliation, including being hanged in the marketplace by the lobes (ears).

  • Tower of Commerce: Capital building of the Ferengi Alliance, it is the largest and tallest building on Ferenginar. From the Tower's "Chamber of Opportunity," the Grand Nagus presided over the entire financial empire of the Ferengi. In the Chamber of Petitioners, the Nagus dispensed financial advice to his subjects. The Tower also housed the offices of the Ferengi Commerce Authority. Some criminals and financial deviants were taken to the top of the spire of the Tower of Commerce, and shoved off to plummet into the Sacred Marketplace, where people bet on where the victims would land.
