General

Is the entire site run voluntarily?

Answer: In short: Yes. Everything you see here is done by non-paid people who just love to write, and who love Star Trek.

How do you figure out what the stardate is?

Answer: To figure out the Current year in-game, as well as its corresponding stardate, the FedSpace year will always be roughly 400 years in the future. Stardates are to written as first the in-game year, then the current month, then the current day.

What is the purpose of Support Personnel, and how are they different from Enlisted Personnel?

Answer: Both the Support Personnel and Enlisted Officers are there to assist the departments on board a starship or starbase.
While Enlisted Officers belong to a specific department, Support Officers can be sent almost anywhere to help out. Support is also a recognized branch of Starfleet Academy, whereas Enlistedmen have not attended.

How can I become a GM, or "Game Moderator"?

Answer: Please contact our Creative Director, as well as our Personnel Director, and include "Interested in GM" in the subject line.

What are the rules for running or participating in a subplot?

Answer: To start a sub-plot, first you must ask your CO permission, as it may not be the proper time for a side-story to take place, out of game. And as long as you aren't making changes that would affect the Star Trek universe, or FedSpace in general, you are free to write subplots around your PC or NPCs as you like. If in doubt, contact your CO.

Do Department Heads decide their own points, or is it up to the FO/CO?

Answer: DHs can submit point recommendations for themselves, as well as the crew under their command, but the ultimate choice for points on any ship are left up to the CO.

How do I get my character's bio updated?

Answer: You can contact your [Starships|First Officer, your Commanding Officer], or the wiki's manager. Please note that if you contact the wiki manager directly, any changes to your bio may be subject to CO approval.

How do I age my character/s to keep things consistent with rank and in-game time on the site?

This chart was created based loosely on real-world military ages. In the end, aging your character is up to you and the character's story.

On this site, does the Federation use money, or not?

Answer: Yes, we have the concept of money here. While the accumulation of wealth is not the driving force in the Federation, currency still exists (gold-pressed latinum, for example). Here, Star Fleet personnel are paid in Federation "credits," which can be used for purchases. A bar or store on a star base that is not Federation-based would have no way or purchasing supplies, or items to sell without some form of money.

FedSpace Academy

How can I become an Academy Instructor?

Answer: Please contact the E-Mail Academy Superintendant and the Dean of Evaluations, and include "Interested in Instructor" in the subject line.

Science

QUESTION?

Answer:

Medical

My character is half Vulcan and half Betazoid. If a Vulcan has green, copper-based blood, and Betazoids have red, iron-based blood, what kind/color blood does my characer have?'

Answer:In most cases, the blood would match whatever blood type and color the mother's blood is, since the mother in both species' cases is the one carrying the child. If the blood does not match the mother, major medical complications arise, causing life-threatening issues for both mother and unborn child. But since it has been shown in Star Trek cannon that it is possible to gene-edit a child while in utereo, it is possible for the mother of your character to have received extensive gene therapy during the pregnancy.

Are the First Officer and Captain able to access all medical information about the crew under them?

Answer: Not without CO/CMO/your character's approval, no.

Tactical

QUESTION?

Answer:

Engineering

QUESTION?

Answer:

Security

Are phasers the only weapons allowed, or are there different weapons, equipment, armor, etc.?

Answer: There are many different types of weapons at a Security Officer's disposal, most of which depend on where the character is serving. A battle ship will have larger weapons options than a medical ship, for example, and a starbase security officer is subject to the type of work the starbase does. The two most common types of phased weaponry include the phaser pistol, and the phaser rifle, both of which do come in a variety of classes.

Does Star Fleet have Security "IAB" (Internal Affairs), or an "NCIS" (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) unit, since Star Fleet is based on a naval organization?

Answer: Yes, both those divisions exist inside of the Star Fleet Security Department. There are many divisions of Star Fleet Security, some of which have been laid out on this page.
