Personal History

Amelia Fawkes grew up the youngest of four children to Hannah and Lukas Fawkes. With three older brothers, she had to quickly learn to play rough and tumble or end up with a lot of bruises. She picked up most of her brother's hobbies, mostly spending time outside in the dirt. By the time she was thirteen, Amelia was helping her oldest brother Theo restore antique motorcars.

Amelia had a difficult time relating to the kids her own age, and she ended up spending more time with her brothers and their friends. They did their best to include her, but even then Amelia felt left out. One hobby she picked up on her own was a passion for astronomy. On nighttime trips, Amelia would stare up at the stars and dream of one day reaching there.

In school Amelia excelled in mathematics, quickly standing out from her peers. She was offered a scholarship to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she majored in starship engineering. During her time at university Amelia still didn't feel as though she belonged, not exactly fitting into the standard MIT student mould. Though she wasn't the top of her class, her often hands-on approach to engineering was noticed by the United Earth Space Probe Agency, and upon her graduation from MIT she was recruited into Star Fleet's officer program.

Graduating from officer training in 2146, Amelia was assigned to the Earhart with her friend from Officer Training, Marcus Locke. Aboard the Earhart they met Ensign Nathan Kelby, two years Amelia's senior. The trio became fast friends. Kelby and Amelia shared many interests and both hoping to one day serve on the first NX class starship when it launched. During her time on the Earhart, Amelia managed to work her way up to Gamma shift engineering watch officer. It was a thrill for her to actually have a chance to visit the stars that she'd often looked up at when she was younger.

In 2151, Amelia received a new assignment, but to her disappointment it was to the Shenandoah. Her friend, Kelby, was assigned to the Enterprise, while Locke was promoted on the Earhart. Kelby promised to send Amelia updates on the NX-01, and put in a good word for her with the Enterprise's chief engineer. Her one consolation was that the transfer came with a promotion to Lieutenant, however she always carried a bit of a chip on her shoulder for being passed over.

Following the Xindi attack on Earth in 2153, Amelia was at last reassigned to the Enterprise as Beta shift watch. Though she was pleased to at last be serving aboard the first warp 5 vessel, it was a bittersweet promotion. The idea that a species would be so angry with Earth and Humans frightened Amelia, and she was never more glad to have such a good friend in Kelby to shoot the shit and share her emotional turmoil with. The Xindi mission really forced Amelia to think outside the box, as they faced many dangers in the Delphic Expanse.

In 2155, Commander Charles "Trip" Tucker III was killed in action, casting a dark shadow across the Enterprise's engineering department, and the ship as a whole. Everyone had lost a friend and mentor. Kelby was promoted to Chief Engineer in Tucker's place, and Amelia replaced Kelby as Deputy Chief Engineer. The pair tried their best to regain some of the friendly feeling that the Enterprise's engine room once had, but it was apparently that it would be an uphill battle. A few months later Amelia received the promotion to Lieutenant Commander.

With the launch of the Challenger, NX-03, Amelia was asked to step into the role of Chief Engineer. Though she was somewhat reluctant to leave the Enterprise, but the opportunity gave her the chance to prove she was up to the new challenge. She was excited to hear her old friend, Marcus Locke, would be executive officer.
