Eilhaunn

Eilhaunn, pronounced eh-ee-LAH-oon, is a Class M planet located in the Ahadi system of the Romulan Star Empire, near the Federation border and on the opposite side of the Empire from the Klingon and Gorn border regions. It is the current seat of the imperial government. The population of Eilhaunn is 6.8 billion.

Eilhuann is the fourth planet from the star Ahadi, which is G1V type star, similar to Sol.

Two large continents dominate the world: Eilhaunn-uwe in the northern hemisphere, on which the capital city, Del, is located, and Eilhaunn-aesn in the southern. Numerous islands make up the remaining land area. 70% of the planet is covered by water. Eilhaunn is 9,828 miles (15,817 kilometers) in diameter, or 1.24 times the size of Earth, and its gravity is 1.05 standard.

Satellites

Two moons orbit the Eilhaunn: Nahrrh and Reisu. Nahrrh is 2,842 miles in diameter, with 0.56 standard gravity. The satellite is volcanically active with a thin but dense atmosphere mostly composed of sulpher dioxide and carbon dioxide. It orbits Eilhaunn at a distance of 405,000 kilometers.

Reisu is a captured asteroid that is slowly spiraling inward towards Eilhaunn and is expected to break apart and enter the atmosphere in about 1,000 years. It is irregularly shaped, 127 kilometers in diameter at its widest and 67 kilometers at its thinnest. Its gravity is 0.006 standard, and it currently orbits at a distance of 528,000 kilometers.

History

Eilhaunn was first settled by the Romulans in 2188 and became one of the two major Romulan colony worlds, the other being Mendaissa. Prime agricultural lands and an abundance of natural resources proved a major enticement to colonization, and the planet's population grew rapidly, attracting many who wished to leave the often overcrowded cities of Romulus to start a new life elsewhere. By 2410 the population stood at 325 million.

The military took an interest in Eilhaunn also, due to its location near the former Neutral Zone, and it soon became an important base for fleet activity in the region. A series of hdraelir (starbases) were established around the planet, culminating in the placement of Hdrael 20 as headquarters of the fleet's Third Division.

When Romulus and Remus were threatened in 2410 by the approaching shockwave from a nearby supernova, the Romulan government made the decision to relocate to Eilhaunn. By the middle of the following year, all government agencies, except for the Tal'Shiar, had been moved to the planet, making the city of Del the new imperial capital.
