Personal History

The beginning of his family had unfortunate beginnings. It was the year 2385, and Starfleet needed new officers. Both Mitchel Dote, a former mechanic, and Mary Schmitt, a nurse, volunteered for duty in Starfleet. Passing though training, Mary was assigned aboard the USS Nightingale, while Mitchel was assigned as an engineer aboard an unnamed listening post along the Romulan Neutral Zone. They met, dramatically, when a warp core breach occurred in November of 2388 aboard the listening post, thanks to the actions of Dominion saboteurs, which later would be found to have been in preparation of the First General War. A few managed the escape, thanks to the advanced warning and capacity of the station commander. Being the closet vessel, the USS Nightingale responded. Suffering contusions from the blast, Mitchel was treated by Mary on-board. Love blossomed, and after transferring to Starbase Alpha in 2389 to be closer to Mary, Mitchel was surprised to hear from her the news: She was pregnant.

Felix Dote was born on August 15th, 2390, a few months after the war begun. Mary retired from the demanding Starfleet life to be able to take care of her child, while Mitchel took extended leave to take care of his son. Felix grew up with a family that deeply respected Starfleet, and from a young age loved to toy around with computers and building models of the Enterprise-D. He graduated from high school at the age of 18, having been placed first in his class for Computer Design, and 3rd for Mathematics. With such a deep respect of Starfleet, it came as no surprise, when at the age of 21, Felix informed his family that he would be attending Starfleet Academy to become an Engineer.

Starfleet Academy proved an extremely interesting experience. From Freshman to his Senior years, Felix studied General Engineering, Transport Operation, and Computer Programming. It was an extremely demanding time, and sometimes Felix felt as if there was no way he could keep up. He was for the most part a loner, capable of having conversations and meeting new friends, but buried in his work.

During his 2nd Year, at the welcoming assembly, another cadet caught Felix’s eye: Robin. After a bit of a chat, they found out that they had a lot of things in common. Robin was a bit shy at first, but opened up quickly to Felix. Ever since then, they have been close friends. 6 months ago, when they were studding together, Felix trying to get ready for his finals, Robin decided to kiss him. After the kiss, a dumbfounded Felix, and a blushing Robin realized that they felt a lot stronger than just close friends. They started dating, and with one thing leading to the next, they became very close. They have been dating for 6 months, and plan to be on the same ship when Robin graduates. But for now, she will have to wait, study hard, and actually graduate.

Mitchel Dote is currently serving aboard Starbase Alpha, while Mary Schmitt is serving as a doctor in the San Francisco General Hospital. Robin is in her 3rd Year, while Felix is soon to graduate.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): General Engineering, and Computer Scripting and Maintenance.
Academy Minor(s): Transporter Operations and Warp Core maintenance.
Hobbies and Pastimes: Felix likes to hang out with people when not busy with work or studies. A quick swing by the bar to order a non-alcoholic (as Felix cannot stand alcohol due to the taste) beverage, and a chat, is his way of relaxing. When not that, walking around the Holodeck in an interesting (to Felix) simulation works just as well, especially if with company.
Short-Term Goals: Felix’s main short term goal will be to investigate the new computer system architecture aboard the ship he will be posted to, and become familiar with it, as well as meet some members of the engineering crew and make new friends.
Long-Term Goals: Felix hopes that he can become an Assistant Engineer to the CE, and eventually, become the CE of a Federation first-class ship. He wants to finally explore the far-reaching corners of the galaxy, and see things that no one else has ever seen before.
Personality: A bit reserved, but opens up when he gets to know people. Serious about his work, but can find humor in things. When things are looking down, he tries to cheer his friends up, and with that, finish the mission holding his head high. He tries to make friends, and when he has them, he cherishes them. He takes any form of backstabbing or betrayal badly.
Sense of Humor: Felix laughs at anything that is witty, and makes sense in the scheme of things. Random jokes, with no connection whatsoever to the topic, are completely lost on him. But if they are well-developed jokes, Felix can laugh along with everyone else.
Phobias: Felix does not like spiders. Not exactly a phobia, but he dislikes them a lot.
Likes: Computers, Engineering, Comradeship, Transporters, a nice chat with people.
Dislikes: Sarcastic know-it-alls and slackers, especially when they have no idea what they are doing. To him, if you don’t know your job, you shouldn’t be here in the first place. If something is done, it should be done right, not half-way.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: Know-it-alls, especially if they try to pass off as knowing more than would be humanly possible. To him, no know-it-all is a good person, because all of them are snobs that believe they are entitled to everything due to their “knowledge”.
Bad Habits or Vices: When nervous or depressed, he tinkers with his locket a lot, tending to look at it, and opening it to look at the picture of Robin. When he is bored, or stuck in a boring situation, he tends to glance at his watch a lot.
Achievements: Graduating 1st in Computer Programming and 3rd in Mathematics from his high school class. Building a model of the Enterprise-D, Graduating from Star Fleet.
Disappointments: The year gap between him and Robin, the extreme lengths of the academy, all the hard work.
Illnesses: None of note.
Strengths: Engineering comprehension, Transporter Operation and Computers.
Weaknesses: Tactical planning and Politics are complete hogwash to him. He does not understand any of it.
Fears: His greatest fear is that something happen to his dad or mom. Being in Starbase Alpha and San Francisco, they would be the targets of a decapitation strike, like it happened when the Borg invaded in 2402.
Prejudices: A prejudice against the Dominion exists, mainly because his dad almost lost his life to them. Not of note yet, but it might surface should he be forced to deal with a Changeling, whenever as an enemy or as a fellow engineer
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Not being very social, he doesn’t worry much about what he wears. He probably just throws on the first thing he finds in his closet. Loose cargo pants and short-sleeved shirts are the norm.
Distinguishing Features: Lack of a beard or mustache make Felix stand out like a sore thumb among older personal. He does wear a simple lock around his neck, with a picture of his girlfriend, Robin, as well as a mechanical watch on his left hand, a gift from his dad to encourage him to keep going. Often times, when he feels lonely or let down, he will fidget with either of these items.
Friends: Felix’s best friend and love interest is Robin. Having meet 2 years ago, their relationship developed and blossomed from simple friendship to full love about 6 months ago, when Robin took the plunge and kissed Felix on impulse. They have been dating ever since, with Robin being a constant source of encouragement for Felix. She hopes to be on the same ship as him when she graduates, but for now, she needs to work hard on her courses, and wait for her graduation.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Leaving home to study at Starfleet, having to leave his parents behind to do so.
Best Time: Felix’s best time was when he was on a date with Robin. They were in a restaurant, and after ordering a shared Spaghetti dish, they looked at each other, and realized that it was too big for them. They sat close by, trying to finish to humongous dish, but to no avail. They left running, laughing as loud as anyone could possibly do so. After a while, they stopped by a bench, and sitting down, they kissed.
Most Crucial Experience: The borg invasion of 2402, making him worry about his parents, graduating high school, meeting Robin, falling in love with her, and graduating from the Academy.
Role Model: Felix is inspired by great engineers of the past, especially Montgomery Scott, and Geordi La Forge. But a more recent person he looks up is his dad, and he wishes to be like him.
