Personal History

Pre-Starfleet

While he was growing up Kyle always had a fascination in joining Starfleet. This was slightly in part due to the fact his mother was the captain of her own ship, even if it happened to be a medical vessel. He wasn't old enough to understand all the responsibilities such an officer would have, but he wanted that lifestyle nonetheless.

In his final years of his high school career he met and fell in love with a girl, Ashley Donn Warren. Even though he assumed she didn't have any feelings for him, Kyle was shocked to hear Ashley ask him out a week before his junior prom. Deciding it was best to take the opportunity he'd been given he didn't hesitate in saying yes.

It was hard to accept the fact that when he started his senior year, Ashley would be heading toward San Fransisco to join Starfleet Academy. True, it was a part of their plans all along, but he knew he was going to feel lonely until he graduated as well. To help him prepare for the Academy, Kyle excelled in all of is classes and graduated as his year's Salutatorian, missing Valedictorian by a very small margin.

Starfleet Academy

With his application approved, everyone except Kyle to follow in his mother's footsteps and be trained for the Medical Division. Despite his willingness to help others in a crisis, Kyle didn't feel like becoming a Doctor was going to change anything. He knew Doctors were going to lose patients at times due to circumstances they couldn't control. He also knew it was less than likely medical personnel were ever offered the center seat, so after his decision making he choose to enter the Tactical field.

During his first year, Kyle became a favorite amongst his instructors. While everyone had been expecting him to barely do above average, considering it wasn't the field everyone expected him to pursue, Kyle's piloting skills were the top for his class. Also during this year, Kyle was reunited with his love. However, unbeknownst to him it would be short lived. Ashley was assigned to a training cruise vessel on a routine training exercise. When all looked right an accident occurred onboard and a warp core explosion incinerated the ship and all who had been assigned.

Upon his discovery of the news, Kyle went into a self-imposed depression. His performance and grades were on a slow downfall on the verge of washing out. Luckily for him a Lieutenant David Sheppard, who was on temporary loan to the Academy from the Concord, took notice of his failing student. Kyle was offered a way out without washing out. He was ordered to take an Extended Leave of Absence to think if Starfleet was really his choice for a life anymore, especially since every mission had the chance for a loss of life.

Civilian Life

Kyle realized that Lieutenant Sheppard had been right, and returned to a normal civilian life. He felt powerless that day that Ashley perished and was angry that there hadn't been anything he could've done to save her. Once he came back home, his mother who had taken her own leave upon hearing of her son's awaited her. She explained the difficulties that every command officer must go through when they put that uniform on. Unsure if he was going to return to the Academy, he was relieved whenever his mom told him she'd be proud of whatever he did.

With his dreams of ever piloting a starship all but gone a new opportunity arose for the young pilot wannabe. Kyle was at an old style vehicle racing track and say his need for speed rise. He didn't have any experience behind the wheel of a car, but he was craving the chance to take it. The track's owner took sight of this and offered Kyle a test run for a team he was putting together. Once he reached speeds of over two hundred miles an hour, it was almost like second nature for him in the turns. Scoring second in the time trials, Kyle was offered a three year contract to race.

Despite his ability to race well, it was difficult for Kyle to ever win a race. His closest chance to win was on the last day of his contract. He was in the pride position of first and on the last three laps. Second and third place were fighting it out, with his teammate taking second. However, the opposing driver wasn't pulling any punches, even if it meant injury. Seeing his teammate being beaten, Kyle slowed down just enough so he could get in and help his friend. Unfortunately, just as he got close his teammate was rammed straight into a wall and crush the whole half front of the car. Despite his owner's wished Kyle tried to do what he could to make sure revenge was served, but it cost him his own wreck.

Being able to walk away was a sigh of relief so Kyle wanted to see his friend, who he knew was tough, had done the same. When he reached the care facility entrance was denied to him. He wasn't sure what was going on until his owner walked out and informed Kyle that the injuries received were too much for the human body. Losing someone for the second time was a life changer for Kyle. He had felt so much misery for not being there for Ashley's death, and the time he tried to do something the same thing happened. No longer feeling guilty for his girlfriend's death, Kyle declined to renew his contract and returned to Starfleet Academy.

Rebirth

Now readmitted into the Academy, Kyle was back in the form everyone had expected from him. His scores still remained the highest of his class, albeit with different people, and his reflexes for piloting were even sharper. Feeling all the strength possible, Kyle blew through his four years with flying colors. On his graduation, Kyle was promoted to the rank of Midshipman and assigned to the starship Concord.

At the time he didn't know that the officer, who had given him the advice that saved his career, was the Chief Tactical Officer of the Concord. Reporting in he was greeted by Lieutenant Commander Sheppard and assigned his prime position, Helm.

Serving his ship and Department Head well, Kyle slowly rose through the ranks. Feeling comfortable on the Concord, Kyle turned down several promotions to serve as a Chief Tactical Officer himself. While he was now content that life and death was the way of Starfleet he wasn't easily willing to be placed in a position to make those decisions, at the moment. In the end he was pushed to another ship by his Department Head, who was hoping his tough love would work out for Kyle again.

USS Avenger, NCC-1500

Feeling a little betrayed, Kyle reluctantly reported in to his new assignment. He didn't know what position he was going to serve in, as he didn't have the support of Commander Sheppard to help him on this new vessel. All he knew was that the ship was commanded by a Captain Grant, nothing more. His plans were to make the same impression, if not better, as he'd done on the Concord.
