Personal History

Amelia was the eldest child of Rose and John Daweson, born merely a year after their marriage. She was a bright, excitable child, who always managed to get into trouble, and over the next three years, as her sisters were born, she developed a quick bond with them. They became a trio, getting into all sorts of mischief. Amelia would frequently develop schemes that often ended with a long scolding from her mother.

Amelia was also fascinated with electronics and engines and making things, to put it simply work. She started working on designs and creating her own little contraptions, going so far as to building her own workshop right out behind her house. She read every book she could find on the subject. By the time Amelia was fourteen, she had built her own hoverboard, and by the time she was sixteen, she had a steady part time job at a local mechanic. By that point there was no doubt Amelia wanted to be an engineer.

It wasn't until Amelia was seventeen, however, that she realized she wanted to be a Starfleet Engineer. She had gone to fix the car of an old friend of her parents. He happened to be a Starfleet officer. When she came, she worked on his vehicle as he talked about the wonders of space, the incredible vastness and its beauty. After she finished on the car, the officer remarked that she might like to join Starfleet as an engineer. It was the first time it occurred to Amelia that space was open to her as well as the hundreds of aspiring pilots and adventurers. She began researching the Academy, and applied. Amelia was so ecstatic when she got her letter of acceptance, and her family was so proud.

However, when Amelia was eighteen, her mother became very ill, having contracted a rare disease. After struggling with the decision, Amelia left for the Academy, leaving her mother in her sisters' care. Not even three months into the year, Amelia's mother died. Amelia was torn, as she felt she had abandoned her mother when she needed her. Without the support of her sisters and father, Amelia would have never been able to return to the Academy to complete the year.

She did, however, complete her year, and two in her mother's honor. Amelia's third year however, was an eye opening experience. She had been accepted into one of the Academy's co-curricular programs, a three day long student 'exploration' of Jupiter's moon, Europa. For the first time in her life, she had been on board a star ship, and it was the most fantastic thing she had ever done. Amelia fell in love with the stars and all of space.
